Did you know? 🤔 PTSD isn't the only mental health issue that affects active military service members and veterans. In fact, a recent study conducted from 2017 to 2021 revealed a concerning rise in eating disorders among active U.S. military service members. The results of this study showed that the rate of new cases per 10,000 individuals per year increased from 2.8 to 5.0 over a span of 5 years. In other words, the number of cases each year more than doubled by the end of the 5-year period. Prevention through education and awareness is key to slowing the rising cases of eating disorders everywhere, and especially in our military service members ❤️🤍💙 #mentalhealthmonth #mentalhealthawarenessmonth #mentalhealthawareness #veterans #veteranmentalhealth #eatingdisorderawareness

Military service can expose individuals to unique traumas, increasing the risk of PTSD. 🤯 From combat to training accidents and military sexual trauma, these experiences leave a lasting impact, especially among Veterans—where 7 out of every 100 will experience PTSD, a rate slightly higher than in civilians. Female Veterans are particularly vulnerable. If you have expertise in Veteran PTSD, we invite you to apply to become a course contributor. Helping veterans elevate their VA ratings and access rightful benefits. | USMC Retired | Veteran Coach @Just4Veterans
Transitioning from military to civilian life can come with its mental health challenges for veterans. To assess these challenges effectively, the Veterans Affairs (VA) often relies on a tool called the Global Assessment of Functioning (GAF) Score. But what does this score mean for you as a veteran seeking support for conditions like PTSD? Essentially, it's a standardized way for clinicians to gauge the level of assistance you might need due to your mental health condition. This could range from therapy sessions to ongoing medical treatment. Want to dive deeper into understanding how the GAF Score impacts your journey? Check out our blog post today! 👇 https://buff.ly/3V0NTEn #veterans #militarytransition #mentalhealth

Mental Health Awareness Month raises awareness of trauma and the impact it can have on the physical, emotional, and mental well-being of millions of people of all ages. According to the National Council for Behavioral Health, 30 percent of active duty and reserve military personnel deployed in Iraq and Afghanistan have a mental health condition requiring treatment – approximately 730,000 men and women, with many experiencing PTSD and depression. Less than 50 percent of returning veterans in need receive any mental health treatment. The Veterans Administration reports that approximately 22 veterans die by suicide every day. Lengths of deployments are associated with more emotional difficulties among military children and more mental health problems among U.S. Army wives. Symptoms and circumstances of mental health concerns come in many different ways. Often, those symptoms are hard to detect. Remember to check in on yourself and your loved ones frequently. #MentalHealthMatters #MentalHealthAwarenessMonth #MentalHealthAwareness #MentalWellness
