Henri Murison heads a corporate lobby group whose membership includes Drax Group. The group fails to mention the billions in public subsidies the company has enjoyed over many years to chop down forests in the US, ship them as pellets to burn them in Yorkshire pumping carbon dioxide into the atmosphere at a rate higher than gas fired and many coal fired plants. What neither Henri (who has blocked me on this channel) and Drax say in this press release is the billions this carbon dioxide spewing facility will require in taxpayer money to gamble on making it truly green and net zero. BECCS is the power plant equivalent of the another Orwellian named greenwash…Sustainable Aviation Fuel. It will require industrial scale intensive forestry ( one recent report suggested an area the size of Wales) that will be destructive of natural habitats and ecologies, creating new threats to the environment. Much better to support the development and construction of small modular reactors on existing sites; developing and deploying UK capabilities in large floating offshore wind; accelerating hydrogen production, storage and distribution; insulating every home in the country …giving a huge boost to skilled smaller house builders/renovators rather than a gift to oil and gas companies who have made mega profits as a result of the war in the Ukraine and are largely foreign owned; a ramped up new house build programme for affordable, sustainable living. I This government has its priorities wrong. HS2 (High Speed Two) Ltd prioritised over the national grid promoting a faster brain drain to the the global megopalis that is London; and spending £800 million a year on keeping Drax running with the prospect in this announcement of billions more.

There tends to be quite a lot of scepticism as to whether energy from waste is a green industry given that it burns material and creates carbon dioxide. However, this seems like an example where not only has there been legal disputes in relation to the build of the facility, but the final product when operational may have struggled to create enough electricity from the waste to make it viable. This is in addition to various local environmental issues (noise, flies etc) that did not make it popular with residents. It is an example of the many interconnected factors that can go into making these projects marginal from a financial point of view. #bioenergy #restructuring #gasification #efw https://lnkd.in/e8tS9fWZ

💧🌿 The expansion of green hydrogen projects, like the new plant in Buckeye, Arizona, is a crucial step toward a sustainable future. However, these projects pose significant challenges in water-stressed regions. With substantial water needs for hydrogen production, balancing sustainability and resource management is essential. Developing innovative solutions like using treated wastewater and improving water efficiency can help mitigate the impact on local aquifers. #GreenHydrogen #Sustainability #WaterConservation #RenewableEnergy #ClimateAction #Innovation https://lnkd.in/ey869U7y

📢The Crown Estate has published their Marine Delivery Routemap outlining a comprehensive vision for the UK’s seabed and noting the important role of Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) in reaching net zero by 2050. The Routemap aims to provide certainty to developers and investors, offering a framework for future seabed developments. The Routemap highlights the opportunity afforded from CCUS Clusters located near to CO₂ undersea storage sites. With the first two CCUS clusters – the East Coast Cluster and HyNet - on the cusp of deployment, it is of utmost importance that the long-term plan for the use of our seabed does not constrain projects, but rather considers co-planning across sectors – CCS, wind, ports, minerals, power & telco cables and pipelines, and of course impact on nature. With use of the seabed set to increase significantly by 2050, it is important that we get the planning right first time around. While the CCSA welcomes the Routemap, the association stresses the need for co-ordinated and strategic project planning to allow developers to progress schemes in a timely manner to meet clean power and net zero targets. The CCSA and our members look forward to continuing to the work with The Crown Estate to deliver their approach to carbon capture and storage. 🔎 The Crown Estate’s Marine Delivery Routeman aims to: 🔹 Provide visibility and certainty for developers across a wide range of sectors, helping boost market confidence and attract investment 🔹 Identify new areas for biodiversity and nature restoration 🔹 Accelerate the delivery of offshore renewables, helping address current pinch-points such as consenting and grid connections 🔹 Support the economic development and prosperity of onshore communities by enabling a long-term view of the investment needed for key enablers like skills, ports and supply-chain. 📄 Read the Routemap here 👉 https://lnkd.in/etC_K7cE 🗨 Read UK Director Olivia Powis's statement below 👇 #CCUS | #CarbonCapture | #NetZero
