LEAVE THE CHARADE ‘What Is Broken in American Politics Is the Republican Party which is a party in disguise. 1) It is not a “party” per se whose goal is to run the government. It represents an invisible international formidable force (name it kleptocracy) which follows the laws of the market whose goal is to replace citizens by clients. 2) This force is not elected and operates like modern mafias with themselves operating like an opportunistic virus: they need a host to destroy while pretending to protect it.   3) The press and the media keep on the charade naming them as a part of the spectrum (the radical, the ultra-right of the GOP’s) 4) Political news media privileges stories about conflict.  On a simple basis : what bleeds leads in ratings. “This focus plays into deep-seated human inclinations to pay attention to bad things — and is rewarded with public attention. This incentivizes news media to tell Americans a story about politics that is largely about division, animosity and attention-seeking strategies — all laid over an “us vs. them” framework. Politicians know that all they need to do to gain attention is to start a fight. Very little news media focus on the hard work and compromise of governing a nation, partly because they know that very few Americans will pay attention.” https://lnkd.in/ddg48f7P 5) International social media dispatch hatred at the speed of the light and in all directions .   6)  “Donald Trump was in some ways a logical extension of the nihilistic, radical politics that emerged in the two decades before his emergence as a presidential candidate and president. ...He has been an accelerant, not the cause. The GOP transformation into a radical cult was there before he became its leader, and was itself shaped and incited by the rise of tribal media and social media, and advanced by gerrymandering and other political tools that insulated a minority in the country from the consequences of their radical statements and actions….. The Real GOP Problem: Why Trump Might Be the Least of Our Worries Written By: Kendesi Mohammed As frustrations with Donald Trump continue to grow, it's worth considering the alternatives we almost faced: Ron DeSantis, Ted Cruz, Marco Rubio, Chris Christie, or Nikki Haley. Compared to these figures, Trump might actually seem like the lesser of several evils. The most concerning Republican, however, isn't Trump—it's Mitch McConnell. Despite the controversy surrounding Trump, many view him as someone who can shake up the political establishment in ways others might not. McConnell, on the other hand, has been re-elected time and again in Kentucky, even though it's unclear what he's truly done for his state. His long tenure and influence make him a more formidable force within the GOP, and perhaps, a more worrisome one. The real question is, why do we keep electing politicians who don't seem to work for us? A mature and nuanced reflection by a co-founder of the Sunrise Movement, an influential youth climate advocacy group that wants Joe Biden to step down, on the coming election. What I appreciate most about the piece is its grappling with the uncertainty of the moment. Something I think about: What will climate-policy advocates do if Donald Trump wins? The conventional wisdom is they’ll dig in, through America’s various institutional channels, and hold on, much as they did through Trump’s first term. But Trump is such an unusual figure in American politics — someone who demanded the overturning of a legitimate election; someone who casually discussed “the termination of all rules, regulations and articles, even those found in the Constitution”; someone well aware that SCOTUS has recently expanded the executive's power to commit crimes — that, I think, we have to consider the possibility the political environment will look like nothing we’ve ever seen before. To say nothing of the social environment which, we’ve seen historically, can (can, not must) undergo extreme change when influenced by authoritarian figures. I haven’t really seen any reckoning with this in environmental policy circles, or in the environmental media circles in which I roam. I suppose the obvious reason is we have no idea. I maintain that the line of questioning is valid. What does climate policymaking look like in Putin’s Russia, do they have ratepayer hearings and do Environmental Impact Statements? What happens if Trump dissolves, say, the CFTC? The types of questions we may be asking in January 2025. https://lnkd.in/d354gVZA

The nomination of Tim Walz as Kamala Harris' running mate puts real climate action on the table for the very first time in U.S. history and it is time — long, long since time — for Senate Democrats to wake up to the corruption in their own ranks and the Big Oil strategies that have been blocking U.S. climate action for far too long. Last week's Senate hearing on the "The Future of Electric Vehicles" serves as a painful, recent case-in-point. Watching Charles Grassley's lies, mud, and talking points morph into Lindsey Graham's folksy, voter-friendly obstruction, which is then posted as a stand-alone video to YouTube, to provide support and talking points to legislators across America, was like watching a live Photoshop demonstration. Big Oil money morphing into climate obstruction. Meanwhile, Democrats think they're having a debate, and present facts for 1 hr 45 minutes. There wasn't a single fact in anything that Grassley or Graham said. Big Oil isn't having a debate. The fix is in. And Lindsey Graham can barely contain his sense of joy. Democrats have such a powerful hand to play. And now with a Harris-Walz ticket, the Rule of Law is back on the table, and so is the prospect of real climate action. In 2012, Tom Toro captured a moment that resonates even more deeply today. The cartoon shows a man in a ragged suit by a campfire, telling children, "Yes, the planet got destroyed. But for a beautiful moment in time we created a lot of value for shareholders." It’s no secret that many of us here at CleanTechnica are deeply concerned about the potential reelection of Donald Trump. Just from a #cleantechnology perspective, his hostility towards everything from #solarpanels to supposedly carcinogenic #windturbines to #electricvehicles is no secret. For those of us who want to save money, get better #American energy independence, be better prepared for disasters, or address #climatechange (or some mix of these things), it would be a bad thing to see the #UnitedStates government turn against these vital technologies and many others. The fear of this is not only reasonable, but likely, and we can’t necessarily count on normal constitutional processes and protections to stop Trump this time. As everyone should know by now, Project 2025 contains a blueprint for throwing off the usual limitations on presidential power, and clean technologies are in the proverbial crosshairs. So, most of us (but not all) are committed to trying to prevent Trump from getting back into office. This Violence Was Clearly Wrong, Though While Trump needs to be stopped, there are obvious moral limits to what we should do to accomplish that goal. Let’s get some perspective. We’re in July of an election year, which means that the election is still almost four months away. Despite Biden’s recent problems with a lousy debate performance, a lot can still happen in four months. Anything can happen. Even if Trump wins the election, he wouldn’t go into office until early 2025, another two months away. That leaves about half a year before we’d even be seeing Trump do anything of consequence. Even then, there are an array of #peaceful options at our disposal to oppose moves Trump would potentially take against clean technologies, #civilrights, and democratic processes. Some of the more radical plans Republicans and the Heritage Foundation have espoused would probably be abandoned right from the beginning, as the burden of governance can get in the way of idealism. What remains can be fought via the courts, via #lobbying, and via #publicprotest and even #civildisobedience. This all adds up to a LOT of peaceful options that remain available to stop Trump without hurting anybody or even doing anything illegal. Unlike some of my fellow writers, I’m not of the opinion that violence never has a place. Things like legitimate self-defense against criminal attacks, defense of community, legitimate police use of force, defensive military operations, and even resistance to things like tyranny and genocide are all good and moral uses of violence. But these uses of violence must be the minimum necessary to secure life, liberty, and our pursuit of happiness and must only be used when all other options are either exhausted or unavailable. Going to violence when peaceful options still exist is deeply immoral and even evil.
