⭐ Congratulations to our Manchester Interns for reaching the first milestone of their 8-week summer internship at Jacobs ⭐ Today they completed their first programme deliverable, giving some brilliant presentations to some of our first year graduates. We’re excited to see how they continue to develop and grow during the remainder of the internship. We’re proud to say that their fresh perspectives and innovative ideas are helping us to challenge today and reinvent tomorrow! 🚀 Special thanks to Niamh McClean, Benjamin Fadele, and Tyler Berks for helping to organise and run our event today alongside Josh Sansom and Noareen Zaidi for their hard work in running the program 🙌🏻

Here is some great insight into the value of paid internships!
In a demonstration of the value of paid internships, although most Class of 2024 graduates participated in an internship, paid interns received more job offers after graduation than either unpaid interns or those who did not participate in one, according to the NACE 2024 Student Survey. https://ow.ly/ZB5q50Txw80

The National Association of Colleges and Employers point out a stark difference between graduate starting salaries with previous experience in paid and unpaid internships. Clearly the statistical pay bump after having a paid internship is appealing to any college student. However, looking at this research, the questions we ask ourselves is what matters. Why do paid interns have a higher starting salary? Do paid vs. unpaid interns approach their internships differently? Are both groups articulating the value of their internships in the same way? Is there an underlying individual’s motivation factor that must be considered? Depending on a student’s college journey, not everyone has the ability of finding an industry specific paid internship. I would argue as College/University Faculty and Administrators, we owe it to our students to coach and provide to them the necessary tools needed to highlight their previous work experience whether it is paid, unpaid, or volunteer work. #highered #careercoaching #internships
