I’m sure the IEA gets many things right, it should do its homework when it comes to page 200 regarding phosphoric acid production. Global phosphoric acid production is under 50 Mt per annum, not 80 Mt. They should also mention that 45% of the global phosphoric acid production is controlled by China and Russia, both who have already shown a willingness to impose export restrictions or quotas. Phosphate should be a Critical Mineral in N.A. and the EU. Projecting 6 Mt of phosphoric acid needed for the LFP markets is actually forecasting over 9 Mt of purified phosphoric acid (PPA) demand. Understanding how PPA is made and the fact that the LFP market is competing for the same phosphoric acid with the farmer( who is feeding the world), is crucial in understanding the real risks. N.A. phosphoric acid production has been in decline for decades and is reaching a crucial tipping point where the G7 is exposing itself to both supply risk and geopolitical risk.
