It’s been two months now since I joined the International Team at Irwin Mitchell. It feels like a lot longer! I have received an extremely warm welcome from the team, I'm privileged to be working with some amazing people and I am involved in very exciting projects (cue shameless plug for our recent FDI report https://lnkd.in/eKWVFgKv ).

Video being repurposed doesn't mean it has to stay video.
One of the cool things about video is that it's a macro content. That means you can start with a solid foundation by having a goal-oriented, emotionally driven video. Then you can take aspects of that video content and create micro content.
We love seeing businesses use parts of the videos we produced in unique ways such as turning an interview into a graphic for social media.
Nice job, Shoe Carnival, Inc.!
P.S. to those of you producing interview-style videos, I recommend telling a few jokes to get genuine smiles/laughs from your interviewees for this exact reason.

One thing she loves about working for Shoe Carnival is always learning something new, which for her, makes it exciting! One thing she can't live without is quality family time outside, while they enjoy their animal farm. Julia's favorite shoe is her Western Chief chicken rain boots!

Day 1 of the North Carolina Craft Brewers Conference and I had the privlage of attending a great presention by my former boss, Scott McWhorter presenting on “Be a force. Don’t Force.”
Although I’m no longer in sales, these words still resonate with me. During trying times of Covid and sales, Scott shared this with me a few years ago and it stuck. Thanks for the insights and continued mentorship over the years!

History is replete with chance events that change everything. Think the collapse in 1989 of the Berlin Wall and the Soviet Union and the resulting liberation of Eastern Europe.
In 1994 we were trying to figure out how to make money in the fire extinguisher wholesale parts business. We failed.
But we did, one day, receive a call from a fire equipment distributor asking if we knew anyone who was selling Halon 1301. We did not and told him so. The next day we received a call from a fire equipment distributor asking if we knew anyone who needed to buy Halon 1301.
And a light bulb turned on.
It’s been said that if you don’t celebrate the milestones, you’re only passing thru time. This year, 2024, Wesco celebrates its 30th anniversary. Over the holidays we took time to ponder this event and reflect on our past. The hundreds of successes. The thousands of failures (We figure we’re batting .333). All resulting in a hardened, resilient specialty company serving the clean agent fire suppression market. And we couldn’t be in a better spot.
There is a scene in the movie Top Gun – Maverick, where Maverick (Tom Cruise), after being berated by an Admiral (Ed Harris) is asked why he, after 30 years on the Navy, hadn’t progressed beyond Captain. Maverick’s answer, which should have been the movie’s tagline, was, “I’m where I belong, sir.” That struck us as a fitting response to the question “Where does Wesco fit?” “They’re not a manufacturer”. “They’re not a distributor/installer”. Our answer? We’re where we belong.
