Wolsey Wall Architecture & Interior Design believes in incorporating fun and play throughout our work. In the spirit of sharing that energy with you, we are introducing #FunFactFriday to our page. Today's #FunFactFriday is a post on architectural history. Did you know that architecture was an Olympic sport? The Olympic Stadium was designed by Jan Wils in 1928 games earned and won the Olympic gold in architecture. "During the first four decades of the modern Olympic Games, 151 medals were awarded for music, painting, sculpture, literature, and architecture. Baron Pierre de Coubertin, who revived the modern games and founded the International Olympic Committee, considered art an essential part of the competition. The one caveat: every submission had to be sports-related." Reference: ArchDaily #architecture #design #funfacts

Incorporating a water feature with a central structure on a rotary can create a captivating focal point in any landscape. Such features often combine the soothing presence of water with the architectural beauty of the central structure, which can range from classical sculptures to modern art installations. They are not only aesthetically pleasing but also serve as a gathering place, promoting a sense of community. When designing a water feature for a rotary, it's essential to consider the scale of the structure, the flow and sound of the water, and the overall harmony with the surrounding environment. With careful planning and design, a water feature with a structure in the center can become a landmark and a source of pride for the community. #waterfeature #fountains #adinnovations #urbandevelopment

Outline rewards designing outside the box. The Outline column light expertly takes on multiple roles as a pedestrian light, an artful wayfinding element, and an elegant architectural detail. It elevates its category in terms of performance and design potential — defining space throughout parks and plazas, lighting the way along walking paths, and transforming into sculptural clusters of illuminated art. Designed by our Danish studio, SHL - Schmidt Hammer Lassen, in collaboration with PAX Architects, this competition proposal for the Royal Polish Opera won an honorable mention. The architectural concept embraces its setting within a forested park in Warsaw, wrapping the public spaces around an opera house and studio stage and integrating them into the verdant surrounds. Without a front or a back, the modestly scaled building’s glazed, scalloped walls welcome visitors from all directions while making the park’s mature trees part of the spectacle. The exterior’s light veil of stone and glass gives way on the interior to softly shaped, warm wood that clads the volumes of the performance spaces. In this installment of #TheFold, we invite you to explore how we shaped this cultural gem and connected it to its lush locale. Learn more about the project on Instagram (@perkinswill) and SHL's website: https://lnkd.in/emC5kkZr 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝘀 ‘𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗙𝗼𝗹𝗱’?: A periodical social media series documenting the processes behind our award-winning designs. Each post presents a focused look at the steps our teams take when thinking through design problems on behalf of our clients, going beyond finished photography to reveal the research, sketches, diagrams, models, mockups, and designer perspectives that go into translating ideas into realities. Whether it’s articulating a facade to complement its urban context or peeling back the layers of history to reveal the cultural capital of an existing building, The Fold shows you our projects like you’ve never seen them before.
