The IHO project in favour of greater gender balance will continue in 2025 thanks to a contribution from #Denmark! 🌟🌊 🚀 The EWH project made waves last year enabling 13 participants from 11 Member States to participate in trainings, internships and gain valuable experience at sea with various partners and hydrographic offices including: 👉UK Hydrographic Office 👉IC-ENC 👉SHOM 👉FIG/IHO/ICA International Board on Standards of Competence for Hydrographic Surveyors and Nautical Cartographers Through these initiatives, we are continuing to build skills and expertise around the world. With the participation of over 15 countries last year alone, they are also a good example of the spirit of international cooperation which is central to #hydrography. This is Denmark’s second contribution to the EWH project, which builds on the momentum from 2024 which brought financial support from #Belgium and #Norway, as well as in-kind contributions from #France, and others. The #UnitedKingdom is also participating with a dedicated fund to support initiatives. The IHO would like to thank the contributing Member states and encourages others to provide support and consider submitting proposals for other EWH projects using the template available at https://lnkd.in/gB8ZcExe The project was initially launched thanks to a contribution from #Canada. #womeninhydrography #genderbalance #hydrography #innovation #gender #inclusion #science #womeninstem #research #ocean #sea #maritime Geodatastyrelsen FIG - International Federation of Surveyors Fisheries and Oceans Canada / Pêches et Océans Canada

Equality, diversity and inclusion measures in academic institutions are often implemented by specific units, but equality work can be seen in a larger context. In this article by Eivind August Westad Stuen, Nordic umbrella organisations representing universities and university colleges describe how they support equality efforts - directly or indirectly. All the Nordic organisations for universities and university colleges believe that the educational institutions should have the main responsibility. Some have declarations on common principles, task forces or contact points where EDI issues are raised. Rector Sunniva Whittaker of Universities Norway gives priority to equal access to higher education and universities and university colleges as places of diversity. As promised here is my blog for this week: Activism in/as Scholarship which are the remarks I just gave as part of a panel. I talk about how it is almost impossible to do activism work in the systems we are in because action is the etymological and praxis key to activism, and we don't like action in academe. https://lnkd.in/gtFFzXxN

Funding Opportunities
Happy New Year! I have updated my webpage of conservation-related scholarships, fellowships, grants, and awards: https://lnkd.in/gBA6jUtJ. I created it to reach as many people as possible so please share widely. It includes funding for scientific research, fieldwork, practical action, law and policy, outreach and communication (including journalism), conference or reporting travel, and prizes or awards for stellar people doing terrific things. The list is largely international with an emphasis on North America and Africa (like my work). Many are specifically for women. Suggestions are always welcome. It will be a while until I do another big update (and maybe even more curation!) but I keep track of each idea. #Conservation #ConservationFunding #EnvironmentalFunding #GradSchool

🌟 Happy New Year from Positive Academia! 🎉 Let’s make 2025 a year of meaningful change and inclusivity in academia! Anne-Wil Harzing and I are excited to continue inspiring you with #EveryLittleActionCounts, our campaign to foster positive transformations in academic environments. This week marks Week 37: Amplify Voices of Women and Marginalised Colleagues, a crucial step toward building an equitable and supportive academic community. Let’s ensure their contributions are heard, valued, and celebrated. 💡 Today’s Little Actions: 🔹 Public Recognition – Acknowledge and reinforce their ideas during meetings. 🔹 Advocate for Equitable Speaking – Promote fair opportunities in seminars and panels. 🔹 Redirect Attention – Ensure their contributions aren’t interrupted or overlooked. As Malala Yousafzai reminds us: “I raise up my voice — not so that I can shout, but so that those without a voice can be heard… we cannot all succeed when half of us are held back.” 👉 Download all campaign actions as PDFs here: https://lnkd.in/eqT5yNQE We’d love to hear how you amplify voices in your academic spaces. Share your strategies and let’s empower one another to create a more inclusive future. #AcademicLife #HigherEducation #Empowerment #Changemakers #Inclusion #Diversity #PositiveAcademia
