Wheeling electricity in municipalities is an untapped opportunity for building energy resilience. The readiness of municipalities to wheel from private generators to private off-takers and traders involves several critical pieces to be in place. Amongst the suite of enabling initiatives countrywide, the Western Cape has been working on a toolkit including standardised wheeling agreements, that it is making accessible to anyone. Secy. Granholm, it seems that more efficient HVDC transmission is essential for additional energy generation capacity in remote places to be fully utilized. DOE has acknowledged the need for this transmission, but as far as I can tell it has not put a $ amount on what the country ought to invest or the cost of not having such transmission. There is already a preference for using/co-locating transmission on existing rights-of-way such as freeway and railroad corridors. If DOE would come up with above public value & lost opportunity cost, that would provide some clarity on how we might get from here to there. For instance, the public may have dual interests in opening up certain rail corridors as open access, electrified freight/passenger corridors to increase utilization and sustainability AND simultaneously have an interest in HVDC transmission co-located on such corridors as backbone for SuperGrid. If DOE established cause for investment and cost of failure to invest and proposed amount for investment - it could work with DOT (and OEQ, EPA, FRA, etc) to deliver multiple public benefits. Good to see 'Set up Great British Energy' feature in Keir Starmer's first steps card. Below is a clip from his speech today, with further detail confirming that: "Labour will switch on Great British Energy, a new home-grown, publicly owned clean energy generation company that will see bills cut for good, boost energy security and create jobs. Great British Energy will be funded in part by a proper windfall tax on oil and gas giants making record profits. "Headquartered in Scotland, Great British Energy will ensure jobs and supply chains are built here in the UK, developing our clean energy industries.   Labour’s plan will lower bills because renewables are far cheaper than gas. "Great British Energy is part of Labour’s Green Prosperity Plan to create 650,000 good jobs, cut bills by £300 on average and deliver real energy security".  

We’re excited about and support the Massachusetts DPU’s inquiry to examine energy burden, focusing on affordability for residential ratepayers – an issue National Grid is working to address. The Comprehensive Performance and Investment Plan we filed in November included Massachusetts’ first-ever proposal to implement a tiered discount rate program. This proposal would improve affordability by enabling income-eligible customers to access larger discounts on their energy bills. We look forward to working with the state and other stakeholders on this forward-thinking approach to ensuring affordable and equitable participation in the clean energy transition. National Grid is also working every day with our community partners to ensure those who are eligible for current discounted rate and energy assistance programs are enrolled and receiving the relief to which they are entitled. Have a good think about these decisions made on your behalf by your state representatives in parliament. By all means, if you truly believe renewable energy generation is going to save humanity and is the best way forward for Queensland, then continue with the existing strategy. If you see these strategies as detrimental to the prosperity of the State and detrimental to the environment, then vote for any party but major parties.

💪Castle Rock Water is gearing up for 2024. Our New Year’s resolution is actually a five-year strategic plan. In December, Town Council approved this guiding document and Castle Rock Water is has already begun several programs which will keep our utility focused and efficiently working on identified projects that make a difference. Here are just a few of the more than 170 tactics included in the plan: construct Castle Rock Reservoir No. 2, evaluate the use of renewable energy to reduce operational costs, implement automated metering infrastructure and reduce non-functional turf by 5%. As one of the larger electricity distribution businesses (EDBs) in the country, we actively collaborate with our fellow EDBs to find efficiencies that will ultimately benefit customers throughout Aotearoa New Zealand. One of those efficiencies is sharing the electricity standards that our team have had a hand in writing during the years. These ‘standards’ are the policies that direct people who work on our network about the likes of correct design, construction, maintenance, and safety requirements. The construction and material standards, for example, are specifically designed with information that people working on the network need to know to do their job safely and cost effectively. Working together as an industry, rather than individual companies working differently, means there’s potential to create efficiencies that ultimately benefit all customers – no matter where you live in the country.
