WBC Board Member Company Gensler has a beautiful vision of Chicago's Magnificent Mile. From a pedestrian-friendly beach connection to new spaces and attractions in Jane Byrne Park, Gensler's renderings of a revamped North Michigan Avenue show a view of Chicago's lakefront that feels familiar yet boldly innovative. But is such an ambitious re-imagining of the Magnificent Mile necessary? The answer, of course, is yes. Reinvestment is crucial for global high streets to deliver as economic engines for their respective cities continually. North Michigan Avenue was ready for its next evolution prior to COVID, having not seen major transformation since the 1990s, but today – given the changes in consumer habits, expectations, and lifestyles resulting from the pandemic – it is urgently poised for reinvention. Chicago’s economy, job market, global reputation, and culture depend on it. What do you think about the project? Do you see yourself enjoying the changes Gensler has to offer? We want to know, Chicago. For more information and images of the project, view below: Crain's Chicago Business : https://bit.ly/3S1x5we Gensler Project overview: https://bit.ly/4eUxNp2
The bridge over lake shore drice looks much more safe and pedestrian friendly than the dark dank tunnel that is there today. Subly elegant and effective improvements overall
It adds another layer of charm to Chicago😊 A long time ago, I loved walking from the Gold Coast to Oak Street Beach and stopping at the lemonade stand to relax.
Love the shift of focus to pedestrians, especially the expanded European square vibe of Jane Byrd Park.
Yes! When I relocated from Anchorage, Alaska last summer, I chose Chicago in part for its accessibility, walkability, and abundant gorgeous public spaces. By amplifying all these qualities, this bold, beautiful, pedestrian-focused vision brings out one of the best parts of the city — the people 💚
