Setting the course for its final three years, the #HorizonEU Programme has unveiled its strategic plan for 2025-2027 at #RIDaysEU. Here are the key highlights you need to know ↘ 🎯 Strategic priorities: Green Transition Digital Transition Building a more resilient, competitive, inclusive, and democratic Europe 🌐 Tackling global challenges: The focus remains on tackling pressing global issues such as climate change, biodiversity loss, the digital transition and an ageing population. 💰 Budget: With an increased ambition, the programme aims to allocate 10% of its total budget to biodiversity initiatives over the next three years, alongside existing commitments to climate expenditure and main digital activities. 🤝 New European partnerships: Nine new European co-funded and co-programmed partnerships are on the agenda, covering areas such as Brain Health, Forests and Forestry for a Sustainable Future, Innovative Materials for EU, Resillient Cultural Heritage, Social Transformations and Resillience or Virtual Worlds. ⚖️ Balanced approach: The Strategic Plan is committed to providing balanced support for activities at different levels of maturity and technological readiness. 🧠 Integration of Social Sciences and Humanities: With an emphasis on inclusivity, social sciences and humanities will be seamlessly integrated into relevant projects from conception to evaluation. ➕ In addition to these highlights, the Strategic Plan offers insights into the early achievements of #EUmissions and introduces the #NewEuropeanBauhaus facility. Biodiversity Loss: The Hidden Threat To Our Economy I am happy to share a resource that I hope many people find useful. I was fortunate enough to work with the magnificent Nawar Alsaadi, FSA, SIPC on the ED4S Academy report, Biodiversity Loss: The Hidden Threat To Our Economy. In the report, we talk about the economic impact and business implications a biodiversity loss. Our economy and our society are just smaller parts of the larger biosphere in which we live. If we don't take care of that biosphere we are directly harming those economies and those societies. Biodiversity loss impacts our everyday life from the threats to the beans that make our coffee in the morning to the safety of the homes and towns in which we live. Investors need to better understand how nature impacts their everyday lives and how their everyday lives impact nature. This knowledge helps them make better investment decisions both at an individual stock level as well as at a systems level. The knowledge of how our actions and our investments impact the natural world can make us both better investors and better stewards of nature. Call for Abstracts: IAH 2024 Davos World Groundwater Congress Excited to announce SCE Amenagement & Environnement as co-chair for the "Agricultural impacts on groundwater quality" section in the group "GROUNDWATER IN THE ANTHROPOCENE – CHALLENGES AND SOLUTIONS" at the IAH 2024 Davos. The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development acknowledges the importance of water quality and includes a specific water quality target in Sustainable Development Goal 6. From an environmental perspective, agricultural activities, including crop production and livestock, remain at the core of water quality problems in many parts of the world. This session aims to address the challenges and latest advancement with regards to diagnosis, monitoring tools and mitigation techniques, employing multi-tracer techniques for source identification, monitoring the fate of contaminants using various methods, and exploring mitigation strategies for non-point sources of pollution, with an emphasis on in-situ prevention, remediation techniques, and nature-based solutions. I recently saw this video of a whale playing with a surfer and thought how little we speak about the interdependence between humanity and nature. Healthy ecosystems provide services worth trillions annually, such as the estimated $125 trillion provided by global ecosystems. Neglecting the environment leads to economic instability, with the annual cost of environmental degradation and pollution amounting to over $4.7 trillion. On the other hand, it is considered that by investing $1.8 trillion annually in topics like sustainable agriculture and conservation and beyond the economy could generate $10.1 trillion in annual business value. There is a clear interplay between nature and the economy - evidently there are both benefits and challenges of maintaining a sustainable relationship between the two but finding this balance is of essence. #nature #sustainable #sustainability #sustainabledevelopment #co2
