84% of sports fans are fired up about women’s sports— nearly half of them are women – and yet less than 15% of media coverage is women’s sports 😳 This math is just not mathing ! It’s time to democratize access and level the playing fields. We are making an e.l.f.ing racquet to empower the underserved. This November, E.L.F. BEAUTY is stepping onto the tennis courts in Málaga, Spain, as the proud exclusive skin and cosmetic partner of the 2024 Billie Jean King Cup and co-host of the BJK “Power of Women’s Sports” Summit. This isn’t just a partnership; it’s the beginning of a multi-year, global mission to empower legendary females and ignite change! Why the Billie Jean King Cup…? ✨it is the first global sporting competition named after a woman. ✨it is the women’s world cup of tennis bringing together powerhouse women tennis players from around the world. ✨it is the world’s largest annual international team competition in women’s sports. BJK is not only a beloved member of our e.l.f. family, she’s also my idol, inspiration, and a bold disruptor with a kind heart. Billie Jean King is the GOAT 🐐 Together, we’re breaking down barriers and showing up in true e.l.f. style—bold, unapologetic, and ready to make some e.l.f.ing noise. What Does Sport Reveal About Our Society? Let's think about the fascinating case of the 1936 Berlin Olympics, often referred to as the "Nazi Olympics." This event was not just a showcase of athletic prowess but also a powerful propaganda tool used by the Nazi regime to promote their ideals of racial superiority. Yet, the outstanding performance of African American athlete Jesse Owens, who won four gold medals, challenged these racist ideologies directly on the global stage, showcasing sports as a field where social and political dynamics play out vividly. Owens' victories at the Berlin Olympics challenged prevailing racial prejudices and highlighted sports as a realm where excellence knows no color. Major sports events like the Olympics serve as a mirror to national identity, often reflecting the political and social undercurrents of their times. The global stage of sports can drive social change, providing a platform to unite people and foster a sense of community across diverse backgrounds. Can you think of a moment in sports history where the outcome had a broader impact on society beyond just the score? #SociologyOfSports #CulturalImpact #SocialChange #InclusiveSports

How can we capture the excitement around the visibility of elite women’s sport with on-the-ground opportunities to play?🤔 Recent research from @womenssportstrust opens our eyes to the real discrepancies between men's and women's sport coverage in the media... ⚠ Only 8% of coverage was of women's sport in 2023 📉 This is down from 13% in 2022 📈 Yet the average time spent watching women's sport increased 16% from 2022 to 2023 The appetite is there. People want to watch women play. But the excitement around women’s sport is not being met with on-the-ground opportunities to play for women and girls. Read our latest blog post to find out how the visibility of elite women’s sport impacts sport at grassroots level, where the passion for sport transpires: https://lnkd.in/e6XqYi8A This iconic line comes from @AimeeBarrett-Theron refereeing the men's U20 Wales v England Six Nations match a couple of weeks ago, after the teams became rowdy during the game.

In Europe, interest in women's sports is just as great as in the US, but the value growth of women's competitions is much smaller in the EU than North-America. How is that possible? And do women's sports channels such as W-sport have any profitable future? "Women's sports do not benefit from a women's channel," says sports marketer Chris Woerts. You can achieve more with a good mix from major providers. "Women's sports must be an integral part of the sports offering. If you isolate it, you turn it into something small. That's not doing women's sports any favor." Marcel Blijlevens, media and sports marketing expert, also has "no confidence at all" in W-sport-channels. My mother always said: "It's not much to look at, but it's better than nothing." Apparently not everyone shares that opinion. What's your point of view in this case? source : The value of women's sports versus the ratings - Danielle Pinedo, NRC 30 september 2024 image : World Curling Tour, Prague Ladies International - 27-29 sept 2024 © Český svaz curlingu, Prague #CanadaSports #Canada #USSports #USASports #WorldCurling #curling #DiversityDay

The headline: The congressionally-appointed Commission on the State of U.S. Olympics & Paralympics has said Congress needs to act to fix the U.S. sports system, from grassroots to treetops. But at 277 pages, it says a lot more than that - years of conversations, research and surveys, distilled into 12 recommendations that, if implemented, would be the biggest structural change to the system in 50 years. Tom Farrey and Ashleigh Huffman, Ph.D. identify five big ideas in the report to build on - and ask five big questions. https://lnkd.in/e8mYCkby

🌍✨ Promoting Inclusivity in Sports: A Call to Action ✨🌍 Hello, LinkedIn community! As the Olympics approach, I feel compelled to address a significant matter that has been making headlines recently. The controversy surrounding France's hijab ban has sparked a crucial conversation about the importance of inclusivity and diversity in the world of sports. Throughout my career, I have witnessed the power of sports in bringing people together, breaking down barriers, and fostering mutual respect. It is a vehicle that transcends borders, cultures, and beliefs, uniting individuals from all walks of life. Therefore, it is paramount for the Olympic committee to be more diligent in selecting states and countries that embrace and welcome all athletes. The recent ban on hijabs in France has raised concerns about religious freedom and the ability of athletes to express their faith while competing on a global stage. It is disheartening to witness athletes being restricted from fully embracing their identity and beliefs as they strive for excellence. The Olympic committee has a responsibility to uphold the principles of inclusivity and respect for diversity. By carefully considering the values and policies of potential host countries, they can send a powerful message that sports should serve as a unifying force, rather than a divisive one. Sports should be a platform where athletes can showcase their talents, skills, and dedication, regardless of their race, religion, or gender. It should be a space that celebrates diversity, encourages understanding, and promotes unity. Together, we can advocate for an Olympic Games that truly embodies the spirit of fair competition and inclusivity. Let us stand together and urge the Olympic committee to prioritize inclusivity and diversity in their decision-making process. By doing so, we can create an environment where athletes feel respected, valued, and supported, regardless of their background or beliefs. Join me in championing a future where sports serve as a catalyst for positive change, breaking down barriers and fostering a sense of belonging for all. Together, we can shape a world where everyone feels welcome and embraced, both on and off the field. #InclusivityInSports #DiversityMatters #SportsUnite 🌍✨🏅🌍✨
