PETRONAS, Enilive, and 株式会社ユーグレナ - Euglena Co., Ltd., industry leaders with wide ranging expertise in energy and biotechnology, are collaborating on an ambitious biofuels project in Malaysia. This biorefinery, set within Petronas' Pengerang Integrated Complex in Johor, will be operational by the second half of 2028. The facility will produce 650,000 tonnes of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) and other biofuels annually, leveraging state-of-the-art Ecofining technology developed by Eni with Honeywell UOP. Construction kicks off in Q4 2024, positioning the biorefinery near key feedstock sources and international shipping lanes. This state-of-the-art facility will produce sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) and renewable diesel/hydrogenated vegetable oil (HVO) to cater to the growing demands of the global aviation and transportation industry by tapping each partner’s expertise.   The biorefinery will process a staggering 650,000 tons of raw materials annually, contributing significantly to a greener future. Denmark’s A.P. Moller Holding, the parent company of shipping company A.P. Moller - Maersk, plans to invest €1.5 billion to build a “fossil-free” plastics production plant in Antwerp, Belgium, via a new venture called Vioneo. “The Antwerp plant will benefit from the region’s expertise in the chemicals industry, strong export facilities and access to renewable energy,” AP Moller said in a statement on 30 September. The Vioneo plant is expected to use green #methanol as feedstock to produce polypropylene (#PP) and polyethylene (#PE), with commercial operations slated to begin in 2028, the investment company said. Petroliam Nasional Berhad (PETRONAS), Enilive, and 株式会社ユーグレナ - Euglena Co., Ltd. have reached a significant milestone with the final investment decision (FID) to develop a biorefinery at Petronas’ Pengerang Integrated Complex (PIC) in Johor, Malaysia. The joint venture aims to address the growing global demand for sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) and other biofuels. The new biorefinery, set to commence construction in Q4 2024 and begin operations by the second half of 2028, will be equipped to produce SAF, renewable diesel, and bio-naphtha. With an annual processing capacity of approximately 650,000 tonnes, the facility will utilize state-of-the-art Ecofining™ technology developed by Eni in collaboration with Honeywell UOP. Petronas Mobility Lestari Sdn Bhd (PMLSB), a Petronas subsidiary, and Enilive will be the primary shareholders in the joint venture.
