How are conference speaking slots like London busses?
None for ages and then several at once!
Three events in three places in three days this week.
First up was the CIO panel at the PGIM EMEA Investor Forum on Tuesday in London. Thursday morning saw another CIO panel with Top1000funds.com in Oxford. And finally an interview with Punil C. on Private Markets at With Intelligence Private Markets Europe in Hertfordshire late on Thursday.
I still vividly remember my first conference speaking slot, it was around 20 years ago. At the time, it felt so big and difficult, and I prepared extensively. I remember I did okay but nothing brilliant. Genuinely, just about scraped through. I’ve also had a few train wrecks since.
Now it all seems so much easier. And in some ways it is. Hopefully I’ve improved but often it’s to do with those around you.
CIO panels especially, so much easier to perform when you have experienced experts who communicate well either side of you!
If public speaking isn’t your thing today, keep at it. It gets easier with practice, and somehow, magically, your skin seems to get thicker as you age…
