What a year it’s been for Young Scientist Academy! 380 students taught weekly — That’s 380 young minds exploring the exciting world of science every single week! 15 schools served — From bustling classrooms in New Hanover County, NC, and Dublin County, NC, to international lessons in Moldova. Science truly knows no borders! 13 teachers mentored — Equipping educators with the tools to inspire curiosity and innovation in the classroom. 116% increase in EOG scores for students in our programs — Proof that hands-on lessons has a huge impact on student learning! 85% of our students wouldn’t otherwise have access to high-level STEM education — Together, we’re opening doors to opportunity and leveling the playing field. MASP is excited to partner with the Million Girls Moonshot initiative to convene a community practice for Michigan's Out of School Time (OST) program. This 4 month MASP Community of Practice course, will focus on implementing a Family Engineering Night as well as connect programs with statewide engineering mentors. This Community of Practice will be in partnership with the Million Girls Moonshot initiative that leverages the Afterschool State Networks and catalyzes resources so that more youth can access high-quality STEM experiences by 2025! Approximately 130 YRDSB teacher-librarians participated in Makerspace tours to empower schools to set up their own Makerspace STEM innovation hubs. “The opportunity to collaborate with other teacher-librarians and get ideas and share ideas about what it means to create a space for students to be makers I think was highly successful,” said Dennis Stam, Science and STEM consultant. EM's Portsmouth Site is well known for encouraging year-round STEM opportunities with students of all ages in the community. This fall, more than 1,400 students from 30 high schools in five nearby counties descended on the site for the annual Science Alliance. In its 13th year, Science Alliance is one of the largest hands-on science events in southern Ohio. Students enjoy science activities, meet with college and local industry representatives and learn about the site’s history and plans for future development. Read more here ⬇️
