Is the SDR role dead? Will AI take the jobs? Here's what I think (the answer may surprise you) No. Okay maybe that wasn't a surprise. But in fact, I predict a resurgence in SDR hiring sometime in the future. Here's why: - Companies trying to make it work with entirely AI are going to fall short. According to Salesloft Data only 4/1000 emails are manually sent. And according to Lavender those 4 emails saw 1200% more replies. - The FCC announced a ruling that recognizes calls made with AI-generated voices are "artificial" under the Telephone Consumer Protection Act (TCPA). Meaning they are illegal! - According to data from a recent Ipsos poll, close to seven in 10 (68%) surveyed U.S. consumers have utilized customer service chatbots. However, of those respondents, close to eight in 10 (77%) prefer interacting with a human for customer service needs. (I realize this says customer service, but think of the inbound leads on your website trying to sign up. Same idea!) Enhance human activity with AI, don't replace humans with AI. P.S. And so it begins 😲 Salesforce announced the launch of Agentforce bots last week. What are they, you may be asking? They are generative AI bots the company says can be trusted to take action on their own. Here's a list of roles they are being deployed to do: ✅ Campaign Optimizer manages and executes full campaign lifecycles. ✅ Service Agent replaces chatbots in handling customer service. ✅ Buyer helps customers find products, make purchases and track orders. ✅ Personal Shopper recommends products and helps with search. ✅ Merchant does all the site-related tasks for merchandisers. ✅ Sales Development Representative engages with potential leads 24/7. ✅ Sales Coach helps train sales teams and lets sellers practice pitching. CEO, Marc Benioff said the company will put all its focus on the new product: “The only thing we’re going to do at Salesforce is Agentforce.” This move will strike fear into many employees, not only at Salesforce but also around the world. But this is the future, and it does not mean your job is at risk. Anyone wanting to future-proof themselves right now needs to adopt AI to make them more efficient. Can AI handle qualification of deals? This is such a big problem that companies hire entire teams to do this job and have been able to deliver a tangible ROI. Marketing wasn't able to solve this because it required engagement that went beyond digital (E,g., email and chat). Sales did a poor job because they need to focus on closing deals more than confirming if a deal a possibility. What will AI do that is different? Seems like this is another situation where this is just going to make the BDR/SDR more capable and remove the easy stuff that these roles shouldn't have been doing to begin with. That means more capacity for these roles. Will it be re-deployed or removed. Time will tell. #salesops #revops #revtech #salestech

What are the three toughest jobs in the GTM org? 1. XDR (Business, Sales, Lead, whatever) 2. Xops (Marketing, Sales, Business) 3. Marketing generalist (one person show) These are the highest turnover, highest burnout jobs and usually the thankless-est of any gig in the revenue org 🫠🤪 The root cause issue that make these the toughest jobs is a combination of repetition and sprawl, with the added bonus of rejection in the XDR role. For example, some of the most repetitive tasks each of these folks are doing are things like: 1. XDRs - Account research, prospect research, lead sourcing, data enrichment, calendar wrangling/scheduling, note taking, bugging Sales reps to update their opportunities so they can get paid. 2. Xops - collecting requirements, reviewing documentation, looking up API endpoints/integrations/available features in each tool, diagramming/flowcharting all tool interaction points, documenting tool overlap, pinging internal stakeholders for details and approval. 3. Marketing generalist - pinging approvers and stakeholders for input or review (hurry up and wait), gathering RFP dates and links, repurposing core content into social posts or blogs or more slides, cleaning lead lists, segmenting the email database... I could go on forever on this one 😉 And this is where AI should come in and be leveraged across the board. I got annoyed just writing out those lists of tasks, it's no wonder these people get burnt quickly. AI should be doing the repetitive things that cause us to lose interest and inspiration in our jobs. It should also be helping us humans with extensibility, allowing us to reach further and do more with less time. In theory, AI is the perfect partner for the three jobs listed above, not to automate humans out of their roles but to augment the most painful, least appreciated and least valuable pieces of jobs that are also foundational to a successful revenue team. So that's where I'm going to direct my focus and share scenarios, real world test cases and key integration points for AI tooling to help empower and enable overburdened and under-resourced members of our revenue teams 💪🦾 I will need help road testing this for anyone who's interested! #generativeAI #aitools #salesdevelopment #mops #genai #revops
