The Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA), is at the forefront of AI research for emerging technologies with national security implications, according to Director Kathleen Fisher. Aligning with their mission of creating strategic surprise, 70% of DARPA's work involves AI. One of DARPA's latest projects, the CASTLE program, is using AI to actively defend against cyber threats without taking systems offline. DARPA is also partnering with industry leaders like OpenAI, Google, Anthropic, and Microsoft to address AI model bugs through its AI Cyber Challenge. With its Semantic Forensics (SemaFor) program, DARPA is detecting manipulated media by analyzing microexpressions in videos to distinguish real content from fakes. DARPA's work aligns with the recent AI executive order, emphasizing AI development in line with societal needs and national security.
