Congratulations to the city of Elsinore for being one of just two European Green Leaf cities in 2024!🌿   Green Leaf is a European Commission award that recognises cities with less than 100,000 inhabitants for their commitment to sustainability and the green transition. With urban areas being the source of many of today’s environmental challenges, it’s instrumental that cities across Europe do their part to further the green transition.   This brings us to Elsinore. What has Hamlet’s hometown done to earn this recognition?   ✅ It is accelerating the energy renovation of buildings and expanding fossil-free district heating.   ✅It has decided to reconstruct the sewage system to separate rainwater and wastewater to improve water quality and efficiency.   ✅It works with biodiversity and sustainable land use.   ✅It focuses on recycling and the principles of circular economy.   ✅The city has achieved a high level of engagement of citizens and local businesses.   The same commitment is true to Elsinore's meetings industry, which includes a wide range of certified venues and hotels as well as restaurants with a green focus. And that's a wrap! Today, the conference was notably quieter, perhaps a consequence of last night's networking drinks, which I heard on the grape vine were very lively. This turned out to be a blessing in disguise as it gave me the chance to dive into lots of expert presentations and unfettered access with some potential future suppliers. There are some seriously cool innovations on the horizon, it did however make me realise one major thing… #Jersey & #Guernsey are incredibly fortunate to have a service like EVie. Speaking with some people that have been working in this space for decades, it's clear that what we have is quite unique, it’s working. We offer an affordable, flexible, and convenient service. Watch out, Channel Islands – I'm returning with a renewed vigour! It's time to update the narrative. We need to cherish the service we have and recognise the thousands of Islanders it supports. And we need to start working more closely with the Governments from both islands, we talk about collaboration between islands, well we have a service that both islands should be proud of. A sustainable, affordable shared mobility fleet that is on course to become the largest electric fleet across the Channel Islands. Working together, we can achieve so much more – tackling the cost of living, reducing environmental impacts, and making our roads safer. Exciting announcements are on the horizon, focused on enhancing flexibility, breaking down barriers to access, and expanding our offerings. Meet William Smyth! 👋   William is the owner of Abbey Nurseries in Thurles, Co. Tipperary, and the Nursery is a campaign supporter of Green Cities Europe in Ireland. Abbey Nurseries is a first-generation business. William started the business over 22 years ago, and is now operating on a second site and has 5 acres under production. The nursery mostly supplies garden centres, as well as argi-chains and landscapers.   🌱 “Some sustainable initiatives that we take are trying to use less chemicals, IPM (integrated pest management). We try to do a bit of recycling, if we can use pots again rather than putting them in for recycling or in for refuse, we try to use it for a different crop” - William Smith   Urbanisation and climate change call for new solutions to maintain and improve the quality of life in our cities. Public green space has a positive effect on biodiversity, climate, wellness and air quality. ‘Green Cities for a Sustainable Europe´ is a platform that encourages the greening of public spaces by providing innovative ideas, information based on scientific research, and technical expertise. Its activities address certain themes: health, climate, the economy, biodiversity and social cohesion. We’re counting down the days until the Clipper Stad Amsterdam docks in Sydney Harbour! 🛳️ But what’s this tall ship all about, and how does it connect with Randstad? 🤔 𝗥𝗮𝗻𝗱𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗱’𝘀 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗯𝘂𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: Built with support from Randstad and Amsterdam, the Clipper symbolises Dutch trading spirit and our global reach, raising awareness of our recruitment services at ports worldwide. 🩵 𝗜𝘁𝘀 𝗽𝘂𝗿𝗽𝗼𝘀𝗲: In the 1990s, over 138 underprivileged individuals gained valuable skills during the Clipper’s construction, helping to support their career journeys. ⚓ 𝗢𝘂𝗿 𝗲𝗰𝗼-𝗳𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗱𝗹𝘆 𝗲𝗳𝗳𝗼𝗿𝘁𝘀: From 2019 to 2020, the Clipper underwent a green transformation with cleaner engines and advanced environmental systems. 🗺 Transport is vital for promoting connectivity, trade, economic growth and employment. Yet, it is also a significant source of greenhouse gas emissions. Therefore, opportunities to create more sustainable forms of transport should be promoted. The United Nations has celebrated the first World Sustainable Transport Day on 26 November. Ecorys is contributing to sustainable transport and mobility through a large number of projects. You can read about 3 compelling examples in the following article: https://lnkd.in/gEHeyZge. Ecorys is conducting various studies to map the current state and potential of short-sea shipping to save emissions and save scarce space on our roads. We have completed a study to assess a unified and comparable methodology enabling transport users to make more sustainable choices. The support study provided input to the EC's legislative proposal for a Regulation on the accounting of GHG emissions of transport services. Finally, a large consortium under the lead of Ecorys is currently conducting a 3-year study, named Green Inland Ports, that aims to support European inland ports to become zero-emission and sustainable hubs, playing a key role in the realisation of the Green Deal's objective of reducing transport emissions with 90% by 2050.
