Sales Professionals: 🚨🚨🚨 Can’t get a first and last name from the “gate-keeper” over the phone? Here’s my go to trick: 👇🏻🎩 1st call (for the last name): *after engaging with the GK” “When they call me back or whenever I connect with them, I’d like to address them as Mr. or Ms. (have them fill in the blank) - is that okay? Trying to be polite / was just how I was raised!” 2nd call (later, for the first name): “Hey (gatekeeper), I think I’m getting my Mr. Smiths mixed up. Always happens on a Monday LOL. Mr. Smith in Human Resources, what was his first name? Boom. You get the idea. And if that doesn’t work, take a visit to Dr. Google and see what you can find 📲 Full proof? Nope! Nothing is. A few days ago, I shared about how we just hired our first full-time salesperson, Jonathan Ackaert. 🤟 Initially, we had planned to hire our first salesperson much earlier. So what happened? We hired a customer success and delivery manager instead: Lucas. Here’s why: First, we understood that before we want to grow our customer base faster, we need to prove that we can retain our first customers. How would you be able to prove you are on the right path if you lose a customer for every two you add? In Belgium, we call this dweilen met de kraan open (mopping with the sink open? 🤔). We worked hard to make our first customer projects a success. Investing in customer success and strong delivery was a priority. We realized, once we do hire a salesperson, we don’t want this person to be putting out fires or having to figure out what we offer and who benefits the most. Thanks, Martin Brown for your advice! Secondly, we took a really hard look at ourselves and had to conclude that our PMF was not as sharp as we had hoped for. Who needs us the most? And why? Conclusion: we needed more time in founder-led sales. As these questions kept us busy the last 12 months, we’ve made a ton of progress. A big part thanks to Lucas, responsible for customer success and delivery, who has been super committed to serve our customers and understand what’s driving them, the best use of our solution and where we should be heading as a company.
