SJUK Security Spotlight: Best of 2024 - Part 2!
Empowerment through knowledge
SJUK hears from the Teledyne FLIR team, who discuss the company’s core values, meeting the needs of customers and the development of the thermal camera market.
We are committed to identifying and solving our customers’ needs better than our competition.
We put the customer at the forefront, so we can create solutions that truly exceed their needs and expectations.
At FLIR, everything we do is driven by our passion to create advanced technology: solutions that go beyond hardware and software to create a multi-layered ecosystem that is adaptable to our customers’ needs.
Delivering peace of mind in unsettled times
TDSi’s Managing Director John Davies on the importance of deploying effective access control.
Whilst the turbulent geopolitical situation continues to evolve and change, the integrated access control and security sector has so far proven to be an altogether more settled affair in 2024.
From a UK perspective the market continues to grow and develop and as a UK manufacturer we are also finding that key export markets such as the Middle East and Southeast Asia have opened up again as COVID restrictions have finally eased.
Naturally though, the UK security market doesn’t operate in isolation. Factors such as the ongoing war in Ukraine, the continued unrest in the Middle East and the ever-present pressures of the escalating climate emergency, along with the UK’s dip into recession all have a strong socioeconomic influence.
Delivering great service across the board
SJUK speaks exclusively with intelligent key and asset management solutions provider, Traka, about what it stands for and how this reflects from the inside out.
Tom joined Traka 10 years ago in a junior sales role and has since worked his way up through the ranks to become Head of Business, overseeing the commercial functions, including sales, marketing and recurring revenue teams.
“Traka’s asset management solutions manage various valuable assets beyond just keys, including expensive equipment and safety critical systems,” says Tom.
The company was born in the 90’s after a sixth month proof of concept and after a big contract win in America in 2007, opened its Orlando office.
Moving the sustainability needle closer to net-zero
Steven Commander, Director & Head of Consultants and Regulations, HID evaluates the different benefits mobile and physical access management systems have on sustainability.
Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) goals have companies taking a closer look at their environmental footprint and considering sustainability with nearly every significant business decision—including those related to access management systems.
The growing influence of sustainability on business decisions should come as no surprise, particularly among companies in the UK where regulations including the Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures (TCFD) and Sustainability Disclosure Requirements (SDR) mandate reporting on environmental and societal impacts.
As a result, UK companies are ahead of the global transparency curve, with KPMG noting that 99% of companies in the UK report on sustainability and 93% include those disclosures in the annual report and accounts.
Elevating the aviation industry
Dr Philo Daniel, Ph D., Global Director Aviation and Urban Security, Smiths Detection explores how airport security can be enhanced through collaborative, future-ready solutions.
Aviation screening consists of the security measures and processes implemented at airports to ensure the safety of passengers, crew, aircraft and cargo.
It involves the inspection of passengers, carry-ons and checked baggage to detect and prevent the transportation of prohibited items such as weapons, explosives and other dangerous materials that could pose a threat.
Aviation security has continuously adapted, progressed and utilised technological advancements to reduce risks posed by increasingly severe and complex threats, including explosive devices, weapons, hazardous materials and bio-threats.
The decline of mental health in the security industry
Recommended by LinkedIn
SJUK hears from Chris Middleton CSyP, Dip ML, MSyl, Director of Major Accounts & Strategic Development at Corps Security about mental health in the security industry.
Are we making any difference, I often ask myself when it comes to supporting our security industry colleagues with mental health related issues that have or continue to impact them in their daily working lives?
Are companies taking it seriously, or just ticking boxes?
I will be sharing my thoughts and findings here.
A positive disruptor
Reliability is everything, our customers insist upon it, says David Ogden, Founder of The Key Safe Company.
It’s getting close to 30 years since Ogden first spotted a key safe in a car showroom in Worcestershire and saw the potential for a business.
Ever since that moment in 1996, The Key Safe Company has set about being a disrupter in the marketplace.
SJUK caught up with Ogden to ask what makes his company’s mechanical key safes different in the market, why his products are so closely aligned to the customer and how he plans to shake up the security market.
VMS solutions for the future
We asked Stewart McCone CEO and Founder of Videosoft Global about challenges and opportunities facing the VMS industry.
We’re amid some major technical advancements in the market, with more complex operations taking shape and getting ready for a big shift.
This shift is leading us towards a more distributed and autonomous industry, as industries move from traditional manned and cabled operations to fully remote and wireless systems.
This evolution is redefining our abilities across diverse environments—whether on land, at sea, or in the air.
