Think You Know Big Ass Fans?

You’ve probably heard our name, but do you know anything real about us? Here are a few bona fide, verified, tried, and most indubitably true facts about our company that might just make you a fan.

1. Our customers actually gave us our name.

We didn’t enter the world as Big Ass Fans. At the beginning, we called ourselves the HVLS Fan Company. It was descriptive—HVLS stands for high volume, low speed—but definitely wasn’t catchy. After years of answering phones and hearing customers ask, “Are you the people who sell those big-ass fans?” we decided to make it easier on everyone and renamed ourselves Big Ass Fans.

2. Our Research & Development Lab is one of a kind.

Home to dozens of degreed engineers, Big Ass Fans in 2009 opened the world’s only R&D lab designed specifically for testing massive airflow and large diameter fans. Our LEED Gold certified facility participates in a number of testing programs: It is a certified satellite lab for ENERGY STAR fan evaluation and an accredited lab for AMCA230, a testing method for large diameter fans. It has also been accepted into Intertek’s Satellite Program as a Level Three Partner, which enables us to conduct official safety testing to obtain Intertek certifications for our products.

3. We sell more than just fans.

With our line of Cool-Space evaporative coolers and the launch of our new Infrared and Unit Heaters, Big Ass Fans is now the industry leader in year-round comfort. Backed by the same level of engineering expertise, custom recommendations, and post-purchase support that customers know to expect from us, Big Ass Fans evaporative coolers and heaters are the best, most energy-efficient way to keep people comfortable through extreme conditions.

4. We’re (just about) everywhere.

From its beginnings in 1999 as HVLS Fan Company with six employees, Big Ass Fans has grown to more than 500 employees globally, selling over a million fans. And our products can be found in residential, commercial, and industrial applications in over 175 countries–that’s over 89% of the world.

We have big aspirations, too—of becoming a 200-year company that continues to innovate, adapt, and develop new products for solving problems, while always putting customers and employees first.
