Why I'm #AuditorProud

As part of the Center for Audit Quality’s (CAQ’s) third annual #AuditorProud Day, I’m delighted to share with you why I wake up every day grateful that I’ve found my calling in being an Auditor at Grant Thornton.

When I first started in the Audit field thirteen years ago, I had so much to learn – about the profession, about professional skepticism, and about the importance of soft skills in addition to the hard skills needed to perform quality audit engagements. And, luckily for me, I’ve been blessed with many strong mentors who took the time to teach and guide me along the way. I’m thankful for all those mentors who coached me to learn from their successes and mistakes as they were growing in their own careers. Back then, I had no idea how much I had to learn and how much growth was going to be in store for our profession!

As a new Advisory Principal at Grant Thornton, I’m excited about the continued future growth of our profession and what that will mean for our clients, our teammates, and our profession in general. With the growth of innovation, data analytics, and even robotic process automation, there are endless opportunities for future auditors to learn new skills and to play an important part in shaping the future of the auditing profession by using these new technologies to sharpen the tools we use to develop even more valuable solutions for our clients, helping them to make their current processes more efficient and effective.

Grant Thornton feels more like home to me than it does a job, and what I love most about working here is the opportunity that I have to spend time with talented Grant Thornton professionals, collaborating with them to help our clients adapt to this rapidly changing business environment. Being onsite at clients with these team members is the highlight of my day – interacting with them, having fun with them, learning from them, working with them to sharpen our technical and soft skills to produce quality work products, and seeing them grow and advance in their lives and careers. I feel extremely blessed for the opportunity to work with such a talented group of men and women every day.

I am also passionate about building trusted relationships with our clients by helping them understand the ever-changing regulatory environment and how to adapt their business processes to most effectively meet these new requirements. I hope that the clients with which I work think of me as a trusted advisor - someone they can come to and discuss questions, concerns, and decisions, as they navigate the use of these new technologies to help their businesses evolve.

Hopefully you’ll have a chance to check out the social media posts under #AuditorProud on Twitter, LinkedIn, Instragram, and Facebook today to learn more about why other professionals are proud to be auditors. I personally am proud to help lead our Advisory practice at Grant Thornton!
