Yesterday, The AMR Narrative and European Patients' Forum co-hosted it's third and final webinar which highlighted several patient stories and perspectives from experts working in both policymaking and the NPO sector in terms of patient organisations. A unified voice is essential for revealing the reality of antimicrobial resistance (AMR) helping to emphasise its human impact. We would like to extend a special thanks to our honourable speakers including Diane Shader Smith (Patient Advocate and the Global AMR Diary), Robert (Rob) Purdie (MyCare), John Kariuki (AMR Survivor, Kenya), Antonella Cardone (Cancer Patients Europe), Malin Grape (Sweden's Ambassador on Antimicrobial Resistance, Ministry of Health and Social Affairs) and Hana Bartakova (Health First Europe and AMR Patient Group). Mit gebündelten Kräften Antimikrobielle Resistenzen bekämpfen 💊🌍 🧑🏼💻 🗣️ Heute hatte ich ein äußerst produktives Treffen mit Herrn Christoph Baller von der AMR Patient Group, die vor 4 Jahren von Health First Europe ins Leben gerufen wurde. Health First Europe setzt sich für Gesundheitssystemfragen auf EU-Ebene ein und legt dabei einen besonderen Fokus auf eine patientenbasierte Behandlung und die Unterstützung von Gesundheitsfachkräften. 🇪🇺 Angesichts der zunehmenden Bedeutung der Problematik antimikrobieller Resistenzen (AMR) ist es nur folgerichtig, dass sich die AMR Patient Group verstärkt dieser Thematik aus der Sicht der Betroffenen widmet. Sie bündeln die Interessen aus den Mitgliedsstaaten der EU, um diese in der europäischen Gesundheitspolitik entsprechend zu repräsentieren. Ihr berechtigtes Anliegen, die AMR-Problematik ganz oben auf die politische Agenda zu setzen und dort zu halten, ist von größter Wichtigkeit. 🏥 Viele Betroffene erleben eine beängstigende Machtlosigkeit. Deshalb begrüße ich die wichtige Arbeit der AMR Patient Group sehr und freue mich, dass wir den Kreis meiner Ansprechpartner erweitern konnte, die sich dieser Herausforderung widmen, um Anliegen und Kompetenzen zu bündeln. 📢 💁🏼♂️ Als Sprecher des neukonstituierten Parlamentskreises gegen Antimikrobielle Resistenzen ist es mir wichtig, im ständigen Austausch mit allen Akteuren zu bleiben, damit dieses gesundheitspolitisch hoch brisante Thema auf der Agenda bleibt. Gemeinsam können wir die Gesundheitsversorgung verbessern und die Bedrohung durch AMR bekämpfen!

A few weeks ago, a Parliamentary Group on AMR was founded in the German Parliament. Today, we spoke with the Chairman of this group, Georg Kippels, and introduced him to our work, our objectives, and why the patient voice is of utmost importance in the discussion of how we address the #AMR pandemic. We had a fruitful discussion about patients’ perspectives, our work in education, awareness raising, and advocacy. We look forward to more exchanges and support in the future. The creation of the German parliamentary group is an important step towards a unified European approach to AMR and is another piece in the mosaic to mitigate the impact of AMR on a global level. AMR is a threat that can only be solved at a global level but is neglected on too many occasions. Therefore, groups like this are important in raising political awareness and fostering change. We want to congratulate Dr. Kippels on his role as Chair of the group and wish him success. On 8 May, our EPF Borislava Ananieva and Yann Heyer presented the views of the AMR Patient Group at the ‘High-level AMR Conference’ hosted by the Belgian Presidency of the Council of the European Union 2024.   The European AMR Patient Group, an initiative of Health First Europe, represents 30 national and pan-European patient organisations, including EPF, and supports patient empowerment and the responsible use of antibiotics as solutions to slow the spread of Antimicrobial resistance. This also requires a cooperative dialogue between patients and healthcare workers on the responsible prescribing and use of antibiotics.   Borislava Ananieva, presented the #PatientPerspective and emphasised the crucial role of patient organisations as multipliers in public awareness campaigns, developing guidelines that meet patients' needs and advocating that patients should have equal and timely access to the antibiotics they need.   #ConfAMR24

Antimicrobial resistance (#AMR) is one of the greatest public health treats of our time. Under the ‘One World, One Health’ principle, addressing human, animal and environmental health, the Presidency co-hosts a cross-sectoral conference for stakeholders to converge, exchange knowledge, and develop a plan of action to combat AMR effectively. The rise of antimicrobial-resistant pathogens undermines the effectiveness of antibiotics and other antimicrobial agents, rendering once treatable infections increasingly difficult. Without effective interventions, AMR has the potential to reverse decades of medical progress, leading to increased morbidity, mortality, and healthcare costs worldwide. The Belgian Presidency hosts this three-day conference in collaboration with the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC), Sciensano and the Federal Public Service on Public Health, Food Chain Safety and Environment (FPS HFCSE). #EU2024BE FOD Volksgezondheid, Veiligheid van de Voedselketen en Leefmilieu
