Clemson University Leadership Signature Program

This week in the practicum, our new Year 1 leaders kicked things off by presenting their "This is Me" slide decks. Following these introductions, LSP members took part in the Amazing Race, a scavenger hunt around the business school. This activity provided Year 1 leaders with an opportunity to practice their leadership skills while also helping members become more familiar with the unique leadership features of the business school.

Yesterday marked the exciting start of our fall semester practicum! We kicked things off by presenting our ‘This is Me' slides and speed networking, helping everyone get to know each other and start forming those team bonds. We're eager to see all the incredible work that will unfold this fall and can’t wait for the first-ever LSP picnic on Thursday!

To wrap up the semester, our leaders attended our Spring Into Leadership Networking Reception at the President’s Suite, organized by Ryan Smith. This is a professional and celebratory event in which leaders can engage with LSP stakeholders, Dean Senior Advisory Board, select alumni, and Clemson faculty/affiliates in a professional networking setting. It expands LSP relations to demonstrate the program’s growth and success. This consisted of hearing a few words from our CEO, Thomas Habib, the Board of Director Awards, the Senior Stole Ceremony, and the announcement of our Fall 2024 Executive Leadership Team. Our leaders then dispersed for refreshments and our networking portion of the reception! A big thank you to all of our attendees, as well as Dean Wendy York and Mayor Robert Halfacre, for partaking in this event and helping us make it a success! In addition, thank you to all of our seniors for your immense effort and dedication to this program throughout the years! In this week's practicum, our leaders focused on our final Leadership Performance and Action Plans (LPAs) that help guide leaders in their journey for continuous improvement and professional growth. Our leaders engaged in assessing their progress throughout the semester and identifying areas to improve their leadership development with their team leader as well as through self-reflection. This analysis not only underscores their commitment to personal and professional advancement but also highlights the inherent value of the LPAs. This process mirrors self and employee assessments commonly seen in industry job evaluations. By establishing specific goals and evaluating their leadership skills, leaders can utilize LPAs to boost their future performance. #LPAS #futureleaders #leadership #clemson

With our semester coming to an end, it is important for leaders to help push themselves and peers to overcome burnout. Many of us are facing numerous assignments and the anxiety of approaching finals during this stressful time of the year. This article from Forbes, written by Holly Burkett, PhD, SPHR describes how leaders can manage through this and help those in their teams as well. Some of the highlights include :  -Improving communications : A lack of communication makes it very difficult and aggravating for your team to know exactly what they are working on. Clear expectations and goals reliefs pressure. -Increase flexibility : Flexible work conditions reduce burnout and increase retention. Allow your team to manage their time in the best way for them. -Strengthen connections : Dedicate time to have check-ins with your team and ask them how they are doing with the given workload. Ask yourself “How can I help them”. This also helps to build a positive work culture. All of these suggestions give simple solutions to reduce stress during difficult times and help create more trusting relationships with those you work with.
