In the third report from Ofsted's Best Start in Life research series, it’s emphasised that “early literacy development gives children lifelong benefits.” The report highlights how stories, rhymes, and songs play a crucial role in enhancing children’s language and vocabulary, as well as their emotional understanding. This foundation is linked to better academic achievement, mental well-being, and empathy. Delivered by Education Development Trust on behalf of the Department for Education the #EYPDP is dedicated to supporting early years practitioners in England with high-quality CPD across the core areas of Communication and Language, Early Mathematics, and PSED. Feedback from practitioners who have completed the training is overwhelmingly positive, with 97% reporting that they now feel more knowledgeable and confident across all three areas of content. We are proud that this aligns with Ofsted’s goal of providing every child with the best start in life. I have been able to confidently draw on my existing knowledge and skills and adapt them to strategies suited to EYFS.” Joanna says the EYPDP has greatly increased her confidence in planning and delivering learning experiences. She has also found the action plans very useful and says they will be valuable for the future. We had a brilliant day yesterday filming at Goddard Park Daycare Centre in Swindon and hearing all about the positive impact of the Early Years Professional Development Programme. It was fantastic to see so many examples of learning brought to life and to watch how engaged the children were in all the activities. A big thank you to Jan Dubiel for joining us to see the positive effects of the #EYPDP firsthand, and to Craig Matthews for your great work capturing everything on film!

“I think this course can also help to boost your confidence in what you know, and how you do it. That confidence comes across not only with Ofsted, but with your families and parents too so you can build a partnership, and that is so important.” Sue has been a childminder for 24 years and recently earned her third Outstanding grade from Ofsted. She shares how meeting other practitioners has helped boost her confidence. Connecting with others in the field has reminded her just how much she knows and how far she’s come in her career.
