How do students feel about learning math, and how can adults help them persist when it feels difficult? The Math Narrative Project is exploring the answer to these questions to guide classrooms. As we begin a new school year, let’s reframe the way we talk about math to give students the mindset they need to succeed — our words can inspire, uplift, and empower students to see math not as a hurdle, but as an opportunity. 🎒✏️

My colleague Ryan Rippel just shared this insightful new research on life experiences that impact economic mobility from the perspective of 4,000 Americans. What’s new about this research is that it centers the voices of people with lived experiences and seeks to understand how their perceptions of economic mobility align with academic findings and other evidence.   Having these insights directly from people who have experienced or are still experiencing poverty is a powerful asset and key driver in our efforts to increase opportunities for economic mobility for more people.   I encourage you to read the report and value the voices of those most impacted by your work.
