  • “If we get this moment right, we can cut childhood deaths in half yet again by 2040. But getting these new solutions to the people who need them is a challenge so huge, no one can take it on alone. It will take scientists, policymakers, advocates, and donors like you to get there.” —Bill Gates, Co-chair, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation Gates Philanthropy Partners is a unique, collaborative model allowing anyone to partner with the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation to make an immediate impact. • Did you know that we're working to address the urgent need for an effective vaccine to help end the global tuberculosis pandemic? Currently, the only vaccine for the world’s deadliest infectious disease is 100 years old and only works on infants. Yet every year there are more than 10 million new cases of TB, mostly in low- and middle-income countries—which lead to 1.3 million deaths. The good news is that a breakthrough might be on the way. Read about how we've partnered with Open Philanthropy on the effort to help fund clinical trials—starting in late 2024—for a new safe, effective, and accessible TB vaccine. • When families can access their qualified tax credits, they can retain more of their income and apply this towards basic living needs and long-term savings. This is why we invest in developing and scaling technology that can simplify the tax filing process for every American. In 2023, Gates Philanthropy Partners joined the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation in partnering with Code for America, which deploys user-friendly digital tax filing tools and connects people to local volunteer tax experts. Together, we were able to support 34,239 taxpayers in 29 states and DC claim over $52 million in flexible cash through GetYourRefund.org. What a difference that will make! • “Women’s participation–bringing women into decision-making positions both in national governments and internationally in organisations like the UN–is key. This is the best way to ensure that we bring about the real changes needed to achieve gender equality, rather than just talking about it.” —Heather Barr, Human Rights Watch ICYMI, the SDG Gender Index, published earlier this month by Equal Measures 2030, found that no country has, so far, achieved the promise of gender equality envisioned by the UN’s 2030 sustainable development goals. It's one reason why our work to empower women and girls is so critical. Read more takeaways from the report: https://lnkd.in/euYYdNZY

  • Neglected tropical diseases are a group of 20 parasitic and bacterial infectious diseases that can cause severe pain, social isolation, long-term disability, and even death—and they disproportionately affect children. These diseases are all preventable and treatable. This is why, in 2023, we directed support to the The END Fund's work in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, with an aim to reach four million people with treatments for intestinal worms, snail fever, and trachoma. At Gates Philanthropy Partners, we believe charitable giving has a unique and powerful role to play in creating a world where each and every person has the chance to live a healthy, productive life. Deputy Director, Giving Opportunities & Gates Philanthropy Partners at Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation

Every year, we at Gates Philanthropy Partners (GPP) take the time to reflect on the impact and accomplishments we’ve achieved in partnership with our donor community over the previous year. In celebration of our joint commitment to create a lasting impact worldwide, I’m excited to share the GPP 2023 Impact Report with you today. Within this year’s report, you will uncover stories about generosity in action. For example, one partner was determined to address the growing refugee crisis, and we paired them with a Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation investment in the UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency to create safe sanitation and hygiene access for women and girls in Cox’s Bazar, a Rohingya refugee settlement in Bangladesh. Sanitation is a human right—and should be the last concern for those risking their lives to seek safety and freedom. That’s just one story. You can see more highlights in my article, or dive into reading the full report: https://lnkd.in/eryhtpsT Thank you to our many partners who inspire me every day through their generosity, courage, and commitment to making this world a better place. And to our donors who make it all possible.
