We have again achieved Mansfield Certification Plus in both the U.S. and UK for 2023-24 in recognition of our extensive work on Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI). This is the sixth consecutive year the firm has been awarded this status in the U.S., and the third since its introduction in the UK in 2021. Mansfield Certification Plus, established by Diversity Lab, aims to ensure fair and equal opportunity for all lawyers to advance into leadership. Mansfield aims to broaden the pool of women lawyers, LGBTQ+ lawyers, lawyers with disabilities, and lawyers from underrepresented racial or ethnic backgrounds who are considered for senior lateral lawyer job openings, firm governance opportunities, equity partner promotions, and firm leadership positions. We were delighted to host our second LoveALL Festival last week, to mark National Inclusion Week in the UK. The vibrant event brought together colleagues and clients to celebrate Diversity, Equity and Inclusion and Hogan Lovells' dedication to cultivating an inclusive environment. Attendees were encouraged to wear national dress and/ or any colours, textures and patterns that relate to their identities. “This year, the LoveALL Festival reflected on the importance of advancing social mobility and we were delighted to be joined by Sophie Pender, CEO and Founder of the 93% Club.  The 93% Club is a social enterprise and membership network designed for state-educated students, undergraduates and professionals. Sophie spoke compellingly, movingly and humorously about her journey to entering the legal industry, the barriers she faced and the steps which organisations and individuals can take to advance social mobility. Last week the UK Social Mobility Network hosted ‘The Intersectionality Event: Our Experience’, in which colleagues shared how their multilayered identities, such as class/socio-economic background, race and ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, and disability amongst others interact, overlap and shape personal and professional experiences. Intersectionality is a concept which was coined by legal scholar and civil rights advocate Kimberlé Crenshaw, who emphasised the importance of recognising that identity is not confined to a single axis of experience. Our colleague panellists provided insightful answers to various questions, including what intersectionality means to them, the unique challenges that may arise when you identify with multiple categories of diversity, and the importance of celebrating our individualism and uniqueness. Hosted by our Trainees, Celine Al Asadi and Khadeejah Patel, the event provided an opportunity to reflect on experiences as well as focus on what we can do, both collectively and individually, to promote a more inclusive environment for all. One of our panellists, Shivani Ananth, commented: “Diversity is an asset and coming from an intersectional background can help fast-track connection with your diverse colleagues and clients”.
