  • Hogan Lovells was honored to sponsor this year's Lavender Law Conference and Career Fair, hosted by the National LGBTQ+ Bar Association! This year, we had the opportunity to connect our colleagues from across our U.S. offices to meet with law students and choose from a diverse and informative array of panel presentations. Among these panels was “The Trans in Big Law Survival Guide,” on which Washington, D.C. associate, Jay Mills (they/them), presented. The conversation explored the unique challenges that transgender and nonbinary lawyers face—from navigating the expectations of big law to finding inclusive spaces at work. The conversation centered around three main themes: ‣ Community matters. Building connections with those who understand your journey is essential for anyone, but particularly for trans, nonbinary, gender nonconforming folks and those with multiple intersectional points with other marginalized groups. Find colleagues or groups who can help you navigate challenges and celebrate your accomplishments. ‣ You belong and your experiences are valuable. Your unique experiences bring invaluable insights that benefit both colleagues and clients. Give yourself permission to have a seat at the table. ‣ Intentional allyship is crucial. Allies can help share the load—especially when it comes to education and ensuring inclusivity even when you aren’t in the room. At Hogan Lovells, we believe in the power of diversity and the strength that comes from embracing our authentic selves, both in and out of the workplace. We are proud to be able to partner with the National LGBTQ+ Bar Association to create space for these conversations. #HoganLovells #DEI #DiversityEquityAndInclusion #LavLaw #LavenderLaw #LavLaw2024

  • Last Month, the CNIL (the French data protection agency) launched a public consultation on a Draft Recommendation regarding measuring diversity in the workplace, following a 20-year block on collecting diversity data. Under the GDPR and since the first adoption of the French Data Protection Act in 1978, such data is deemed sensitive and may be collected only when individuals freely give consent or when explicitly provided by law. Hogan Lovells lawyers, partner Etienne Drouard and Associate Rémy Schlich, outline the key points from this Draft Recommendation in their article: https://bit.ly/3M9827r #HoganLovells #DEI #DiversityEquityAndInclusion #CNIL #ThoughtLeadership

  • Disability is one of our core diversity strands advanced through the pillars of our global DEI strategy. We have pledged our accountability for improving disability inclusion at Hogan Lovells as signatory to the Valuable 500, a global collective of 500 CEOs and their companies working in harmony to drive lasting change for the 1.3 billion people around the world living with a disability. Our CEO, Miguel Zaldivar, has endorsed our pledge and published commitments. • Our Global Ability Inclusion Network (GAIN) held its second remote coffee morning of 2024 last week to mark Disability Pride Month. Colleagues from across the EMEA region were welcomed by our GAIN Co-chair Jamie Curry, Senior Accountant, who shared why it was important for him to get involved with the network and contribute to the continued efforts in elevating disability inclusion throughout the firm. We were delighted to be joined by guest speaker Gemma Bailey-Smith (preferred name Bailey), a renowned advocate for employment DEI specialising in disability and neurodivergence. "Accessibility benefits all, and it’s about time it’s not an afterthought,” said Bailey. During the coffee chat, Bailey provided tangible takeaways, discussed how attitude can be a barrier to inclusion, and intersectionality. Our GAIN network exists to connect our colleagues with disabilities, caregivers to and allies of individuals with disabilities, and to support community-building internally. These informal sessions are an opportunity to connect, learn more about disability and neurodiversity inclusion, and share lived experiences. We hope the future sessions of the EMEA GAIN Coffee Morning series continue to help educate, raise awareness of disability inclusion, and act as safe spaces for our colleagues to come together from across the region. #DisabilityPrideMonth #DisabilityInclusion #Neurodiversity #DiversityEquityAndInclusion #LegalDiversity

  • In honor of #DisabilityPrideMonth, we hosted the virtual panel "Stories from Hogan Lovells Employees with Disabilities" yesterday. This panel discussion wrapped up the GAIN Americas Disability Diaries series, which has been featured weekly on our LinkedIn page.   We were thrilled to have over 262 colleagues join the discussion to listen and learn. Our panelists shared their experiences with visible and invisible disabilities, providing valuable insights into their daily lives and the resources available to them at Hogan Lovells. They highlighted how these resources have empowered them to thrive in their roles.   Thank you especially to our panelists, Ilana Kattan, Christine Sifferman, Jessica Bigby, Toni Cross, Esq., and Lizzie Jones, MHRIR for sharing your personal stories. These dialogues help us better understand one another and demonstrate how inclusive adjustments to our practices and policies can foster an equitable workplace where everyone can succeed.   #LegalDiversity #DisabilityInclusion #DisabilityPride
