  • 𝐒𝐞𝐢𝐳𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐎𝐩𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐓𝐨𝐰𝐧𝐬𝐯𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐞’𝐬 𝐖𝐨𝐫𝐤𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐜𝐞 North Queensland is entering a period of significant economic growth, supported by billions of dollars in both committed and planned investment. As this momentum accelerates, attention must turn to building the workforce that will deliver and sustain this transformation.   The Queensland Major Projects Pipeline 2024 (QMPP) report, released by the Queensland Major Contractors Association (QMCA), highlights a bright outlook for Queensland’s future with major projects planned across construction, energy, water, transport, and defence. While the report acknowledges potential constraints and regional risks, it also reinforces the scale of work already committed and in planning.   For North Queensland, we have recently completed our own Project Pipeline Report and Regional Workforce Scan, confirming what many in our region already know - we will need thousands of workers to build these projects, to capture the benefits of the economic opportunities they will generate and provide the critical services needed the community.   With major projects in our region ramping up right now, the competition for skilled workers is intensifying, especially as migration trends continue toward southeast Queensland. That’s why JTNQ is focused on the incredible opportunity to retain, grow, and upskill our own people to build the workforce our region needs now and into the future, starting with the next generation.   We’re actively working to ensure young people in our region know: 👷 What jobs are in high demand now and over the next few years, 👷 What skills they need, and 👷 The pathways to secure long-term, high-paying careers close to home.   “We know the demand for skilled workers in several sectors exists now and will grow significantly over the coming 5-7 years, and we want our local young people to be the ones stepping into these high-paying jobs. This is a critical opportunity to build a strong, skilled workforce right here in our region.” Dr Lisa McDonald, Project Manager, JTNQ   JTNQ is proud to be working alongside the JTNQ Committee, industry leaders, education providers, and all levels of government to ensure our region is ready.   💭 Interested in being part of the regional response? As our regions jobs pipeline continues to grow, especially in sectors like health care, construction, education, and advanced manufacturing, it's more important than ever that our young people are ready to take advantage of local opportunities.
