About us

LTU’s College of Architecture & Design is dedicated to inspiring, educating, and motivating architecture and design leaders through “theory and practice,” Lawrence Tech’s foundational pedagogy. CoAD offers degrees in six fields: architecture (BS, MArch), game design (BFA), graphic design (BFA), industrial design (BS), interior design (BS), and transportation design (BS). With all curricula grounded in design, students are empowered to thoughtfully enter current practice modes and, when appropriate, expand the conversations to allow architecture and design to become more innovative, inclusive, and democratic.

  • Join us for the first Fall 2024/25 Design x Technology lecture as we present Gary Karp who will speak on Ideas on Architecture, Suburbs, and Disability. Tuesday, September 10 12:30 - 1:30pm On campus and livestream "As a wheelchair user who had to be carried up and down steps into the architecture building for five years, I personally know that full inclusion and accessibility is not an "extra" in the built environment. It is integral to any design — which comes out the better for it — the principle of "Universal Design."" Lecture benefits: ✓ Help designers focus on the wide array of professional paths that an architectural education makes possible. ✓ Give historical perspective on how architecture used to happen. ✓ You will be challenged to commit to safe use of modern design technologies. ✓ Gary will help our guests bring about great design that aligns with people's lives and goals — from individuals to whole communities. • CoAD congratulations goes out to LTU alumn and current graduate student Meredy Thomas BSAr ‘24 on winning 2nd place in the USGBC student design competition 2023-2024! To encourage Midwest students to become familiar with the LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) rating system, the USGBC opened its 4th Annual Student Design Competition for the 2023-2024 school year. The competition focused on three project types incorporating either the LEED v4.1 rating system for Building Design and Construction (BD+C) or the LEED for Neighborhood Development (ND) rating system as the design criteria. The competition recognized exceptional design moving towards resource conservation in operation through a creative and innovative integration of design strategies such as daylighting, passive heating and cooling, materials, water, energy generation and other sustainable systems with the goal of creating a cohesive and viable solution. The winning entries demonstrated particular emphasis on understanding LEED criteria and how the integrative process of LEED enhances the design/planning and engineering of our built environment. Our winners receive a cash prize, one-year Student Membership to USGBC and will be celebrated at events in their community. Learn more: https://buff.ly/4dT8675
