About us
The Mattone Family Institute for Real Estate Law (the “Institute”) is the focal point for real estate at St. John’s University School of Law. Through real estate curricular offerings, networking and externship opportunities, and a roster of special student events, the Institute makes a first-rate education in real estate law available to all St. John’s Law students. The Institute also facilitates innovation and collaboration by students, practitioners, and scholars grappling with the rapidly-evolving world of real estate law in New York City and beyond through its series of conferences, continuing legal education classes and additional programming. The Institute is named for Joseph M. Mattone, Sr. '53C, '55L, '94 HON, the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Mattone Group, whose generous endowment supports the Institute and its programs. Thank you David and Nikki for the wonderful lectures!

It was our honor to co-sponsor this unprecedented event St. John's University School of Law!
Every October, St. John’s Law marks the annual National Celebration of Pro Bono with a series of events. To kick off this year’s series, last Friday we brought 100 alumni and students together to provide free legal support to low-income New Yorkers through the American Bar Association’s Free Legal Answers Program. Operating locally as New York Free Legal Answers, the program offers a free virtual legal advice clinic. Licensed attorneys provide answers to a range of civil legal questions posted online by low-income New Yorkers. For this one-day Celebration of Pro Bono event, St. John’s Law brought the program in house, pairing alumni with students to respond to questions submitted through the New York Free Legal Answers website. In all, 30 groups worked on at least 40 questions related to unemployment, immigration, constitutional rights, estates and probate, tenant’s rights, and more. It was a very successful day thanks to the hard work of our St. John's Law Public Interest Center, which coordinated the event in partnership with the Public Interest Law Students Association, the Alumni Association Alumnae Leadership Council Chapter, and the Mattone Institute for Real Estate Law. A very special thanks to Denise M. Miranda, Esq. ‘96, Acting Commissioner of the New York State Division of Human Rights, for speaking to the student and alumni participants about the importance of pro bono work. We’re also grateful for the New York State Bar Association’s support leading up to the event. Last but certainly not least, congratulations to all our alumni and students who spent the day making a tangible difference in our community! #StJohnsLaw #StJohnsLawAlumni #ExcellenceProminenceImpact #CelebrateProBono
