"We intentionally weave teachable moments into everything we do, and we truly believe that one of the most sustainable things any of us can do is to reuse the materials in the world around us," says Claire Tyra, executive director of SCRAP Creative Reuse Ann Arbor (a NextCycle alumni team). SCRAP Creative Reuse is a creative reuse store dedicated to promoting creative reuse of materials in an environmentally sustainable behavior. They provide odds and ends materials for crafting through community donations. Additionally, they are seeking partnerships with organizations that produce consistent usable offcuts from manufacturing to help stock their store. The Michigan Materials Marketplace is transitioning to Rheaply! NextCycle Michigan, in collaboration with the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE), is launching the Marketplace on Rheaply to enhance Michigan's waste diversion and circular economy goals. Rheaply’s real-time messaging and digital reuse storefronts will connect material suppliers with end-markets, maximizing both economic and environmental benefits. Michigan organizations can now easily buy, sell, or donate surplus materials and new market opportunities. By extending the lifespan of Michigan's landfill sites and promoting economic development, the new marketplace aims to reduce carbon emissions and support local businesses. Ways to Get Involved: 1. Create your free Rheaply account. Then, list your organization's items, browse for resources, and meet local business professionals eager to connect and share resources. Sign up and explore the Marketplace here: https://lnkd.in/g53ZDsmC 2. Join us at MISCON 2024 during our session, NextCycle Michigan: Advancing Michigan’s Circular Economy and Healthy Environment. We're sharing another project spotlight from our Build to Scale Technical Support Program, Harvest Nano, a Michigan-based startup (and NextCycle team alumni) founded by Refael Aharon - PhD. Harvest Nano is at the forefront of innovation, working to scale a process that recycles waste organic materials—including sewage, dairy, agricultural waste, and textiles—into valuable nanocellulose which has many practical uses in manufacturing. With help from the program, Dr. Aharon and his team have conducted a series of rigorous product engineering and laboratory tests to refine their process. Additionally, they’ve benefited from engineering design services to advance their innovative technology towards full-scale production. Build to Scale Technical Support is a NextCycle program facilitated in partnership with Centrepolis Accelerator to provide technical assistance grants to circular economy focused projects! This program is funded through the U.S. Economic Development Administration (EDA) and the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis, so apply today to support your business or community project: https://lnkd.in/gsCrVSyQ
