Driving entrepreneurial innovation and growth in NYS

About us

New York Ventures, a division of Empire State Development, is an early-stage venture capital fund that invests in high growth start-up companies that are led by diverse entrepreneurial teams, across all regions of New York State. We administer the state’s innovation investment funds by partnering with entrepreneurs to build the future of New York, prioritizing companies that solve important challenges in the areas of climate change, agriculture, healthcare, education, information sciences and other emerging technologies. More than 43% of the 25 companies in our current portfolio are women or minority-founded businesses. We’ve also launched three fund-of-funds through a program responsible for investments in an additional 140 emerging-growth startups in New York State. We co-invest with a wide variety of large and small funds to leverage NYS dollars for the benefit of all New Yorkers resulting in successes across a range of companies and industries—from Plated and Rgenix to Spincar and Agronomic.

⚓️ Ahoy #NYCW! Announcing our partnership with the Trust for Governors Island And our funding from New York Ventures / Empire State Development. Fully allowing us to support the Trust’s work towards a zero-emissions fleet of operations vehicles. This collaboration reflects our mission to address pressing climate challenges by leveraging existing infrastructure in any urban environment — from a 172-acre, car-free island to the biggest cities in the country. “Our partnership with the Trust for Governors Island is a testament to the way entities of any size can lead progress toward decarbonization through breaking down barriers to EV adoption,” said Judy Chang Project Director at itselectric. “We’re proud to bring our sleek urban chargers, deployable in just days, to the Island in support of its transition to an all-electric operations fleet, making the air even cleaner for everyone who visits.” “This new partnership with itselectric is the perfect example of what’s possible here on Governors Island, enabling us to modernize our fleet of operations vehicles while dramatically cutting our emissions and demonstrating the exciting future of climate solutions for New York City and cities around the world.” said Clare Newman, President and CEO of the Trust for Governors Island. Empire State Development President, CEO and Commissioner Hope Knight said, “Empire State Development’s $500,000 seed investment in ‘it’s electric’ through NY Ventures is already bearing fruit, as evidenced by this exciting deployment on Governors Island. By backing innovative climate technologies like their compact charging stations at an early stage, we’re not only powering the island’s electric fleet but also driving forward New York’s commitment to clean energy. This project represents promising progress since our initial investment, and we hope it’s just the first of many future deployments across New York State.” https://lnkd.in/exhr63zm #NYCW #toottoot!

We are thrilled to announce that JelikaLite has been awarded a 2-year, $959,000 National Science Foundation (NSF) grant to develop a non-invasive therapeutic brain stimulation medical device to improve the communication, responsiveness, and social integration of autistic children.  The project's objectives are to finalize the current clinical prototype into a manufacturing-ready product and implement a platform for personalizing transcranial photobiomodulation (tPBM) treatment based on individual sensor -derived patient characteristics. Results could enrich scientific knowledge through personalization, monitoring, and data aggregation of neurological measures for further elucidating the mechanisms of autism and enhancing the efficacy of other therapies. Read more here https://lnkd.in/e23Yj74y.  This achievement not only marks a significant milestone for JelikaLite but also serves as a strong endorsement of our pioneering approach in the medical field. The grant will enable us to accelerate our development, expand our team, and bring this transformative technology closer to the families who need it. We extend our heartfelt thanks to the NSF, our investors, and all stakeholders for their invaluable support. Your belief in our vision is crucial as we work together to create a brighter future for autistic children and their families. We are eager to continue this journey and are deeply grateful for the ongoing support from our community. Together, we are making a meaningful impact!
