Today President Biden was in Arizona to apologize for what he called “one of the most horrific chapters in American history…that the vast majority of Americans don’t even know about.” We are proud to have supported the work of Native American Connections and Phoenix Indian Center to bring the stories of Phoenix Indian School to our community. Engagement with survivors and community helped design the adaptive reuse of the original band building at what is now Steele Indian School Park to become a community event space, classroom and gallery. A commercial kitchen was built for Indigenous chefs and entrepreneurs to preserve Native foodways, which got significant use during the pandemic to prepare meals for elders. And importantly, a curriculum was developed to bring the history of the Phoenix Indian School to students around the state to break the silence around this dark time in American history. Congratulations Dustin! Thank you for all the work you do leading a Rural Financial Opportunity Center!
I am thrilled to share that I am one of 100 leaders selected to join the Obama Foundation's Obama Leaders USA program for 2024-2025. Being named an Obama Leader is an incredible honor and a pivotal moment in my journey as a changemaker. Over the next six months, I’ll be diving into the Foundation’s ‘Hope to Action’ curriculum, which is inspired by President Obama’s approach to leadership. It’s a chance to reflect on my leadership values, refine my skills, and learn from other leaders working on issues like democracy, civic engagement, climate change, and education, as well as those who share my goal of building supportive communities and improving health outcomes in the United States. From a pool of thousands of applicants across Africa, Asia-Pacific, Europe, and the United States, I’m excited to be part of a class of leaders worldwide who are all dedicated to making a positive impact in their communities and to join the broader Obama Leadership Network upon my completion of the program. I look forward to bringing these lessons back to my work at Habitat for Humanity of Findlay/Hancock County and the communities we serve, whether it's by engaging diverse perspectives, building collective power, or leading with integrity. #obamafoundation #obamaleaders #changemakers #leadership #professionalgrowth #professionaldevelopment

#BroadbandAccess through the ACP was critical to Rural communities recovering from the pandemic. This map, produced with the Center on Rural Innovation, shows where the repercussions of the program's cancellation will impact communities the most.
For most participants, the Affordable Connectivity Program was the difference between having access to the opportunities that connectivity offers and being left behind. With the program's ending, low-income residents and other vulnerable populations face consequences that extend well beyond the immediate loss of internet access, slower connectivity, and more expensive monthly bills. Together with Rural LISC, we explored the impact of the ACP and the repercussions that many communities will face if the program is not continued. Read more: https://lnkd.in/gQ9qMPuF
