I'm thrilled to be teaching CS342/MED253 Building for Digital Health at the Stanford Mussallem Center for Biodesign again this Winter Quarter 2024-2025 for the *5th year* with Oliver Aalami, Carlos Guestrin, Paul Schmiedmayer, Aydin Zahedivash and our Stanford Biodesign Digital Health team! Join us and learn to build a full-featured digital health solution upon our Stanford Spezi open-source framework that now spans iOS/watchOS/VisionOS, Android, and Web and includes modules for functionality ranging from wearable and bluetooth sensor connectivity, #HL7 #FHIR and EHR integration, to dynamic cloud and on-device #LLM execution. Over the past 5 years, our students have successfully built many real-world digital health projects for research and clinical care at the Stanford University School of Medicine, Stanford Health Care, and Stanford Children's Health | Lucile Packard Children's Hospital Stanford, University of Utah School of Medicine, Charité - Universitätsmedizin Berlin, and industry partners. Reflecting on an inspirational day at the Digital Health Innovation and Biodesign Workshop, where minds from Stanford University, Hasso Plattner Institute, and Charité - Universitätsmedizin Berlin came together in the spirit of innovation! Building on the shared visions between the Biodesign Digital Health Group, the HPI Digital Health Cluster, and Charité, we built a pathway forward for solving pressing healthcare challenges. 🚀 Together, we explored how digital health can improve mental health medication management, preparation for waves of respiratory illnesses, advanced diagnosis for liver failure patients, and timely access to medical practice guidelines. We had many intelligent minds devoted to scaling access to care. 🚀 From the insightful presentations to the hands-on group work, we were inspired by the group's commitment to enhancing healthcare access, interoperability, and patient outcomes. Special thanks to our teams for their enthusiasm and fresh perspectives: Ariel Dora Stern, Anne Flint, Alexander Bartschke, Dr. Philipp Stoffers, Linea Schmidt, Martin Bukowski, Dr. Daa Un Moon, Dr. Eduardo Salgado and all of the students and researchers who participated! Here’s to many more joint efforts and the exciting collaborations yet to come! 

Our team had the chance to visit gematik GmbH and meet the teams working on digitalization standards, infrastructure, and integrated systems. Building and governing digital health and healthcare IT at scale is challenging and requires coordination across all stakeholders. Open-source software and an open mind for collaboration and needs finding are essential aspects to address these challenges 🚀

The team of Stanford Biodesign Digital Health visited us in our Berlin office today. Oliver Aalami, Paul Schmiedmayer, Aydin Zahedivash and Andreas Bauer shared how they make it easier to build modern, interoperable digital health applications with Stanford Spezi. 𝐄𝐱𝐜𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐜𝐨𝐥𝐥𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐒𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐝'𝐬 𝐌𝐮𝐬𝐬𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐦 𝐂𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐁𝐢𝐨𝐝𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐠𝐧 𝐃𝐢𝐠𝐢𝐭𝐚𝐥 𝐇𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐭𝐡 𝐆𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐩 𝐢𝐧 𝐌𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐜𝐡! This week, we had the honor of hosting the Stanford Mussallem Center for Biodesign Digital Health Group in Munich. It was an inspiring two and a half days of showcasing our vibrant Munich ecosystem and sharing ideas about the future of #digitalhealth with Oliver Aalami, Paul Schmiedmayer, and Aydin Zahedivash. 📍 Key highlights of the visit included: 1️⃣ Several deep dive sessions with leading research groups exploring opportunities at the intersection of #digitalhealth, #AI, and #healthcare. 2️⃣ A dynamic interdisciplinary workshop that brought together computer scientists, clinical experts, and domain specialists. We followed the Biodesign team's innovative, needs-driven approach to addressing healthcare challenges. We also had the opportunity to learn about the 𝗦𝗽𝗲𝘇𝗶𝗙𝗿𝗮𝗺𝗲𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸, an open-source tool designed to streamline the development of digital health solutions. 3️⃣ Numerous networking opportunities with researchers, students, and innovators, all united by a common mission: to use cutting-edge technology to transform the future of healthcare.   This visit has opened exciting possibilities for future collaborations and impactful partnerships. We're eager to build on the connections and ideas that emerged.   A special thank you to everyone who helped make these days such a success, and to the Heinz Nixdorf Foundation for their ongoing support!   Helmut Schoenenberger, Prof. Dr. med.
