I had a great time attending the New England Society of American Foresters (NESAF) conference, connecting with fellow forest practitioners and researchers and learning about their incredible work across the region. I'm also grateful to have had the opportunity to share some of my own remote sensing research with colleagues. Looking forward to continuing to share my work through the Yale School of the Environment and The Forest School at the Yale School of the Environment in the future! #NESAF #SAF #YSE #forestry #remotesensing

What do drones, LiDAR, and lianas have in common? 🌳 Meet Jacob Peters, a third-year doctoral candidate at The Forest School at the Yale School of the Environment, who is at the forefront of research on lianas, or woody vines, in North American forests. Using drones equipped with multispectral cameras and LiDAR technology, Jacob measures tree characteristics with remarkable precision—down to 10 cm! His work explores how lianas impact tree growth and carbon storage across forests with varied management histories, offering valuable insights into the intersection of forest management and ecology.
