📝 UITP, in collaboration with EMTA - European Metropolitan Transport Authorities, EPTO (European Passenger Transport Operators), IRU, CER (Community of European Railway and Infrastructure Companies) and Eurocities and POLIS Network, has co-initiated and signed a joint letter, calling on Members of the European Parliament to recognise and prioritise the essential role of local public transport – not only for citizens’ daily mobility but also for advancing Europe’s economic, social, and environmental objectives. 🚆 Shaping the future of rail mobility – reflecting on InnoTrans! 🚆 Last week, our colleague Anne-Laure Le Merre traveled from Brussels to Berlin aboard the InnoTrans train, a special journey organised by Europe’s rail in collaboration with UITP and other key partners. 🗨  Throughout the 7-hour journey, she engaged in discussions on the critical role regional and local rail passenger services play in enhancing daily mobility for European citizens. 💡 During the whole week in Berlin, UITP’s delegation in InnoTrans 2024 also highlighted how regional and suburban rail networks continue to drive forward sustainable, accessible, and integrated mobility. These services are crucial in connecting people to opportunities and keeping our cities and regions moving. Thomas highlighted the critical challenges facing public transport and outlined the sector's priorities for the future. It’s been one year since the European Commission created the Expert Group on Urban Mobility (EGUM)—and we’re already hitting big milestones! 🎉 The Public Transport and Shared Mobility Subgroup, co-chaired by UITP and Région Ile de France, has delivered five key reports for the 2023-24 work programme! 📃 These reports provide critical insights on: - Prioritising public transport in urban areas - Increasing inclusiveness and addressing workforce challenges - Complementing public transport with shared mobility - Financing public transport - Social Climate Fund opportunities 🚍 With the 2025 programme in the works, we’re advancing towards more sustainable and inclusive urban mobility. I had the pleasure to moderate a panel on the #traintoInnotrans about #women employment in the #rail sector.
