Build campsites, not settlements

Do you agree the workshop crafting menu is a bloated mess? Does the idea of haivng to manually decorate a settlement crap that has zero gameplay effect bore you? Do you want a streamlined settlement crafting experience that focuses on crafting things that matter? If so, then this mod may be for you.

For me, settlement crafting is a weird addition to Fallout, particularly for survival mode. Maybe is was because Minecraft was so popular that Bethesda felt they needed it into the game. Maybe they just wanted to make a true sandbox power fantasy. But for me, it ends up diluting the core exploration and quest gameplay loops, and is particularly unbalanced in survival, where it becomes an easy source of infinite resources. But, what if we take a different approach...

Mod Goals
- The player is forced to use what already exists in a settlement, instead of terraforming it from the ground up into a new city. Almost all the structures, furniture, and decorations have been completely disabled from the build menu.
- Most quest-locked and faction locked recipes are still available
- Looted scrap has a purpose, a lot of items that were previously scrapped down to smaller components are now unscrappable and are used in crafting, like Fuses, Lighters, and Lightbulbs. Some other Misc items have been made uncraftable, and left as valuables
- Recipes are more difficult to craft, requiring more ingrediants and perks, but are also more rewarding. Defense, food and happiness bonuses have been added or increased.
- Crafting sleeping bags and mattresses require pillows, which can either be obtained by scrapping an existing one, or buying it from a trader, or found in the world. Regular beds with a frame are now completely uncraftable, with the goal of paying for a night at an inn to get the well rester and lovers embrace bonuses. Couches now count as settlement beds (although aren't usable by the player).

Other Tweaks
  • Couches now count as beds in workshop mode - BUT you have to pick them up and put them back down for the workshop to update the bed count, this seems to be a limitation with the vanilla engine

Configurability
An optional plugin is supplied that allows users to retain the recipes changes, but restores the disabled vanilla settlement crafting.

Installation
Download the mod, and place it low in your load order.

Compatibility
Mods that add things to the workshop menu may or may not work, depending on where and how they inject their things.
Sim Settlements 2 should work just fine (and works nicely in combination)

Lunar Fallout Overhaul works, just place Home Unimprovement after LFO.
This mod was designed with True Perks in mind, but doesn't require it.

Recommended Mods to use with Home Unimprovement
Faction Housing Overhaul - decorates player homes for you
Settler Built Settlements - builds up settlements for you
