My name is Saskia and I am an experienced counsellor and peer worker. I've seen many therapists throughout my life, with experiences ranging from transformative to frustrating. I know that for many people the hierarchical relationship between therapist and client can be demeaning and disempowering. My practice is particularly focused on supporting those have trouble with these traditional therapeutic relationships. My approach is collaborative and informal, involving you as an equal partner in the process of therapy.
Everything I do is underpinned by anti-oppressive practice. This means recognising the effects of racism, ableism, homophobia, transphobia and other forms of oppression on people’s lives, rather than trying to address mental health in isolation. I practice integrative therapy, drawing on a range of approaches based on what suits you.
As a disabled therapist I am able to offer an attentiveness to the ways that people’s different bodies affect the way they move through the world. My particular disability also means that I provide therapy exclusively via telephone. Working this way has given me a deep understanding of the use of voice as an instrument for connection and healing.
