Grief leaves us feeling lost, isolated, and overwhelmed. It can be hard to see a way forward when the weight of loss feels so heavy and unbearable. You may feel waves of anger, guilt, and loneliness, making you question your own strength. If you are grappling with the end of a relationship, a life altering diagnosis, or the loss of a loved one, know that you don’t need to go through this alone. I support clients like you (and me!) navigate grief and loss. Together, let’s learn to understand your experiences, so you can find meaning and resilience in the face of loss.

Life’s stressors can leave us feeling lost, overwhelmed, and disconnected from our true selves. You may find yourself constantly battling negative thoughts, feeling isolated from those who cannot understand your struggle, or burdened by your strife for perfectionism. You may not even remember a time when you didn't feel this way. But one thing is for sure: you are ready for a change! You would like to manage life’s transitions without them overwhelming you. You want to wake up each morning with a sense of calm and purpose. Most of all, you are eager to rebuild your self-esteem and face your future with a renewed sense of hope.

Conflicts in relationships are inevitable! It’s how we adapt & overcome them that makes the difference. These conflicts can be circumstantial or rooted in anxieties from the past and may not look like your typical conflict. Perhaps you find yourself experiencing the same anxious thoughts or maybe you're stuck in the same negative patterns that you can't seem to break as a couple. Interpersonal and internal conflict can leave us feeling stuck, confused, stressed, overwhelmed, or depressed. Most importantly, recognizing that fear is an emotion we all experience and discovering how fear operates for you is okay to explore.

My clients are often… 1) Those struggling with anxiety, racing thoughts, and high stress. 2) Young professionals navigating the stressors of life transitions, relationship issues or family drama, the weirdness of being in their 20’s & early 30’s, all whilst trying to build their career and find success. 3) Men of all ages navigating relationship issues, anxiety, career change, men’s issues or other stressors. 4) Folks who struggle to set boundaries, articulating their needs or building confidence. 5) Those looking for a therapist that doesn’t feel stuffy and formal or mushy gushy - someone they can be comfortable with.

Do you find yourself to be very self-critical and worried about what other people think of you? You’re someone who puts yourself second to make sure other people are happy, but still find yourself anxious, feeling burnout, and thinking you're not “good enough”. You may be worried to change because you’re scared your friends and loved ones will stop liking you. But you’re ready to make a change. You’re ready to set boundaries with those around you. You’re ready to stop ruminating on negative thoughts. Most of all, you’re ready to love yourself and embrace your strengths and weaknesses. I want to help you get there.

Female Counsellors

Does it matter what gender my therapist is?

In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.

Should I see a female therapist?

Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.

Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?

Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?

It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
