Now accepting new Aetna clients! Being a human can be really hard sometimes. Maybe it’s hard because there’s an area in our lives where we struggle, like in our careers or relationships. Perhaps, we’ve experienced some painful times that we haven’t fully healed from or find ourselves engaging in problematic behaviors. Whatever our struggles, I’ve found that psychotherapy can help reduce our suffering and help connect us to the joy of being alive.

I work with people who would like to have more confidence in themselves and the way they move through relationships and decision making. I work with people who want things to not be as hard so that they can look towards other things in life.

Welcome! The people I work with come to therapy for a lot of reasons. Some severe- suicidal ideation, trauma, dissociation, self-harm, moments of crisis. Others appear to have a life that seems fine- stable work and/or relationships but experience a persistent and burbling sense that life is not as satisfying as it could be. Some have a question- should I leave my partner? My job? Have a baby? Transition? Who am I? What is art? Others are trying to figure out how to manage neurodiversity or plurality in a world that is not built for them.

Ready for less surviving and more flourishing? Less chaos and more ease? You feel like a hot mess, pouring so much energy into getting by. You want success at school or work, better connections with your partner, friends, and family, and a satisfying sex life. You wish you could have more fun. But past failures, disappointments, heartbreak, or regrets keep haunting you. It feels like the pandemic reinforced these mental and emotional shackles.

I am a compassionate, board-certified licensed professional counselor. I learned about one of my favorite quotes at summer camp as a child. "For if one falls down, his companion can lift him up; but pity the one who falls without another to help him up." As a counselor, this quote still resonates with me. My approach is to help you "up" with your challenges through compassion and collaboration. Together, we can develop an individualized, personalized, and comprehensive plan to move forward through difficulties in your life.

I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in the District of Columbia, New Jersey and Delaware. I have been providing therapy since 2016. Many of the clients that I see do not know where to start when it comes to their therapeutic journey. They arrive with a full load and I support them with slowly but surely unloading that weight that they have been carrying. I do this with kindness, compassion, humor, and a healthy dose of reality. I take a strength-based and cognitive-behavioral approach when working with clients.

Our identities are always evolving. Whether it is when we transform as adolescents, enter the workforce as young professionals, begin or end a long-term relationship, or become a parent, we are constantly navigating how and where we fit in the world. I believe that having a safe space to maneuver transitions, address stressors, and explore different parts of yourself can be the difference that aids you in living more authentically.

Hi there! I’m happy that you’re here and willing to take a look at things in your life through a perspective of change. Change is the only constant in life. Change is uncomfortable but if you’ve made it to this point, I encourage you to continue to choose yourself and take charge of your life. I’m here to take clinical words or taboo ideas and see how they might firstly, make sense in your situation and secondly, apply to your day-to-day in concrete ways. I am not here to give you answers rather ask the right questions that help you discover or accept answers yourself. Let’s move forward together!

Female Therapists

Does it matter what gender my therapist is?

In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.

Should I see a female therapist?

Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.

Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?

Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?

It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
