Chef notes

Brussels sprouts have to be one of the vegetables that I cook the most and these air fryer Brussels sprouts are no exception. This cold-weather vegetable has an incredible shelf life and can last up to two weeks in the refrigerator. They are a jack-of-all-trades vegetable, from salads to stir-fries to pastas to starring as their own delicious side. While they are one of my favorite vegetables, they can be a little tricky to cook correctly. Too many of us are scared of some tragically bland boiled Brussels sprouts, but fear not — you’re going to want to give this vegetable another chance.

The ideal Brussels sprout is crispy on the outside, tender on the inside and glazed in something salty-sweet. This recipe for honey-soy Brussels sprouts accomplishes all of the characteristics of my ideal vegetable side dish, all while taking less than half an hour to prepare and using only five ingredients.

Instead of getting out a pot filled with boiling water and carefully timing the Brussels sprouts to get the desired texture, microwave them with a little bit of water, steaming until they are fork-tender. Once cooked, toss them in a honey-soy sauce until every nook and cranny of the sprout is coated. Transfer the  glazed sprouts to the preheated air fryer, cooking until the outer leaves are delicately crispy. I like to sprinkle some flaky salt on top of the Brussels sprouts when they are fresh from the fryer before serving.

These honey-soy sprouts would be delicious with my chicken teriyaki!
