Our founders were entrepreneurs. As business owners, they sought to address the exclusion of people from marginalised communities from financial services and mainstream economy. Their solution was to start a bank that would enable these communities to have access to financial and banking services through which they could also start businesses. In essence, building a bank that would back entrepreneurs. We launched the Enterprise and Supplier Development and Women Entrepreneurship Development with this in mind, and today we celebrated the SMMEs on these programmes. Today at our African Bank offices in Midrand, we celebrated the SMMEs that were part of the 2024 cohorts for their resilience and being visionaries that want to participate in the economy. The two 2024 cohorts from both our Flagship programme and women programme consist of businesses in Information Technology (IT), food and beverage, manufacturing, construction and maintenance, and the green economy, logistics, fuel, and other industries. We also officially launched the 2025 cohort which started the programme in January this year. “Youth unemployment confines young, unemployed people to the fringes of society,” said Elizabeth Ramashala, Head of Transformation and Sustainability. “But, when entrepreneurs are skilled, they can make an impact on their businesses and surrounding communities.” As we aim to back the SMMEs in our ecosystem, we wish them growth and sustainability. After all that is the ultimate objective we strive to achieve. #AudaciousEntrepreneurs #AfricanBank #AudacityToBelieve #SMME #TownshipEntrepreneurship #ESD24
