What an opportunity, representing DANONE SOUTHERN AFRICA at The Nutrition Congress 2024 to share Market Trends and Behaviours relating to Yoghurt Intake in South Africa alongside leading dairy and public health experts Stephan Peters of the Nederlandse Zuivel Organisatie (Dutch Dairy Association) and Prof Friede Wenhold of University of Pretoria 🤩 The messaging was consistent and clear: - dairy remains an important food group to help improve the nutrition status of South Africans - being a nutrient dense food, dairy intake can help address micronutrient deficiencies - the science of the dairy matrix shows that dairy foods are neutral to protective against cardiovascular disease - fermented dairy foods (like yoghurt) are associated with a lower risk of developing type 2 diabetes - market data shows that since 2020, there has been a decline in the volumes of yoghurt purchased from retailers in South Africa - the call to action to dietitians and nutritionists was to educate consumers on the importance of regular dairy intake for health Thank you ADSA RDSA, @NSSA for the opportunity! Also a thank you to Consumer Education Project of Milk SA Maretha Vermaak Monique Piderit, RD (SA) and Marlinie Kotiah for the incredible ongoing support! ✨

Is Sustainable Marketing a solution for a greener future? In today’s world, sustainable marketing is more than just a trend—it’s a necessity. As highlighted in a recent article quoting DANONE SOUTHERN AFRICA Marketing Director Thandeka Ngqumeya, sustainable marketing strategies are crucial for creating a positive impact on both the environment and society. This articles explores: 1. Authenticity and Transparency: Building trust through honest and verifiable practices. 2. Long-term Commitment: Emphasizing sustainability as a continuous journey, not a quick fix. 3. Consumer Education: Constantly raising awareness about the benefits of sustainable products. By integrating these principles, brands can not only meet consumer expectations but also contribute to a healthier, more resilient ecosystem. Let’s drive demand for greener options and encourage more businesses to adopt sustainable practices. Together, we can make a significant difference! Seeding the Future on Danone Day. Today, we join 100,000 Danoners around the world in celebrating the 10th Danone Day, with this year's inspiring theme: Seeding the Future. This day is a testament to our collective commitment to innovation, sustainability, and positive impact. Locally, we highlighted the groundbreaking work of our R&I team on enzymes and packaging. Their innovations are not just shaping the future of our business but also paving the way for a more sustainable and impactful tomorrow. In line with our Danone Impact Journey sustainability targets, we are proud to share the latest news about our B Corp certification. This milestone underscores our dedication to meeting the highest standards of social and environmental performance, accountability, and transparency. A special highlight of the day The Impact Tank, modeled after the 'Shark Tank' reality show. This exciting initiative focused on developing a yoghurt pack using Artificial Intelligence. Participants were required to showcase how their innovation is creative, innovative, showcasing a solution that will drive our business forward. Let's continue to seed the future together, making a positive impact on our planet and communities. #DanoneDay #SeedingTheFuture #Innovation #Sustainability #BCorp #AI

Doing good is good business.  Doing good, doing green is smart business. Doing good, doing green and doing governance well is creating shared value business. On Tuesday, during National Nutrion Week I was so delighted to serve as the Programme Director for the Impact Summit 2024, in collaboration with DANONE SOUTHERN AFRICA which had convened us under the theme of ‘Sustainable Social Impact in South Africa through an Ecosystem of Partners’. Now I must admit, I was incredibly delighted to receive the call and to honour the invitation from Danone for this specific event, because it speaks to a concept that even though we may have just found the English and Acronyms for a few years ago, but in Africa, in South Africa, have been actioning for centuries. That is the concept of sustainable impact and in it, how the adage of going farther together contributes to continuously serve the South African community, ecosystem and economy while building sustainable businesses and systems. In a country like South Africa with significant socio-economic challenges, such as inequality and unemployment, companies that focus on Sustainability and ESG can make a meaningful difference! More and more organisations are realising that to ensure their own sustainability in South Africa, they need to invest in the growth and well-being of this nation. Businesses in South Africa will thrive, when South African communities are healthy, economically active and thriving too. And for the past 2-3 years, we have seen SMEs, NGOs and JSE listed organisations releasing ESG and Impact Reports, and hopefully through the CIPC’s recent announcement that as from the 1st of October 2024 companies can now voluntarily adopt the ISSB standards in adopting sustainability reporting, we can hopefully see more shared value businesses in action. The Impact Summit invited experts through addresses and panel discussions navigating under three key pillars – Health, Nature and People and Communities. They included Hendrik Born, the General Manager of Danone Southern Africa and Professor Bonang Mohale as they extrapolated the shared value learnings, showcasing concrete examples of Impact in Action. An incredible day and opportunity it was to learn about the work being done from regulators to NGOs in order to not only mobilize accountability, but to create effective strategies that are impacting the region, and exploring methods of catalysing and scaling efforts. Thank you to the Danone Southern Africa team for entrusting me with the role.    #ImpactSummit2024
