Nedbank has played an instrumental role in our efforts and endeavors to support and promote eco-inclusive enterprises which are making environmental and social impact in rural and peri-urban landscapes across South Africa. We had the privilege of not only present our organisation's work at the Nedbank Green Economy Indaba 2024, but also having our enterprises exhibit on the day as well as speak at various breakaway sessions forming part of the event.

Mr. Rest Kanju, is a speaker at the Just Energy Transition Partnership Funding Platform at the invitation of the JET Project Management Unit in The Presidency of the Republic of South Africa This initiative connects climate finance from developed nations to impactful projects, especially in the country’s coal-belt, Mpumalanga . WWF has partnered with Indalo Inclusive to pilot a programme that is aimed at improving the co-operative governance, livelihoods of small scale fishers, and protecting the natural marine ecosystems they work in along the Southwest Indian Ocean Region. The programme, being implemented primarily in the Port St Johns area provides training and technical support to 8 local fishing co-operatives. Recently we hosted our second governance workshop in Port St Johns, which was facilitated by one of our Executive Directors, Candice Pillay who is also the Head of Social Impact Law at the global law firm, Norton Rose Fulbright. The aim of the training was to enhance small-scale fisher’s knowledge on co-operative structures and how co-operative entities work, with the objective to strengthen operations and encourage good governance among co-operatives. #sustainablefishing #marinelife #indalopreneurship

The Nedbank SiAGIA SiAWECCA for 2024 got underway with first of the IndaloGrow workshop. Seven entrepreneurs leading women-owned and climate-smart enterprises from around South Africa form the latest cohort of the SiAWECCA Programme which, this year, being implemented as part of our Nedbank-supported SiAGIA Programme. Climate change effects hit women disproportionately harder than men, this is why we are excited to partner with Nedbank to working with the entrepreneurial women of our country to support their climate smart innovations and solutions into viable and thriving eco-inclusive enterprises. Indalo Inclusive with the support and funding of the Industrial Development Corporation is an implementing partner of the Township Energy Fund. This initiative aims to support and strengthen township-based enterprises by helping them mitigate the effects of power supply challenges or inadequacies to them, and to promote the use of renewable energy among emerging SMMEs. Through the initiative several Indalo-supported enterprises have had solar systems installed on their sites to meet the energy needs of their businesses. This huge task of site assessments and installations has been conducted by our technical partner on this project In Pursuit Renewable Energy. This month we had the pleasure to go on site visits with our project partners to see the newly installed solar systems at our enterprises’ premises and find out how the systems work. The enterprises reported that the solar systems have helped them to continue operating during power outages and have assisted in reducing their electricity costs. #Indalopreneurship #TownshipEnergyFund #InpursuitRenewableEnergy

Earlier this month Social Innovation Exchange (SIX) brought together social innovation leaders and voices from around the world to the University of the Free State in Bloemfontein for the Social Innovation Indaba. The event focused on the collective power of communities create thriving, resilient, people-powered change, and featured engaging discussions with national and international speakers. The discussions tackled the theme of people-powered change by exploring the topics of redesigning institutions, imagining new futures and working across silos. We had the privilege to contribute to the conversation through a breakaway session we hosted titled "Building Cross-Sector Partnerships for Eco-Inclusive Entrepreneurship" which shared our insights and experiences with building partnerships with different types of organisations and stakeholders and navigating the different organisational cultures while so doing. We were joined by Thabile Zulu from our partner Nedbank and shared a case study of our community engagement process in the Dipaleseng Local Municipality. Through the session we were able to unpack how to create synergy and mutual trust among various partners including donors, corporates, enterprises and communities.
