Our goal is to alleviate poverty and sustainably improve the living standards of the poor, unemployed and marginalized.

About us

The Motsepe Foundation was founded in 1999 by Mr Patrice Motsepe and Dr Precious Moloi-Motsepe. In 2013 the Motsepe family were the first on the African continent to join the Giving Pledge, started by Bill and Melinda Gates and Warren Buffet. The Foundation was founded on the philosophy of ‘ubuntu’, the African concept of giving and caring for your neighbour and other members of your community. This selfless and compassionate quality is part of the age-old African culture and expresses the core value of humanity as goodness to our fellow men. The act of giving back has been and still is an integral part of our moral duty and collective responsibility. It is a concept that has held African families and communities together for generations, despite the continent’s many challenges. We are proud to pass it on to the next generation.

On this National Children’s Day, we celebrate the coaches, teachers, storytellers, and mentors who walk alongside the youth through life’s ups and downs. Their guidance fosters the dreams and contributions of the next generation. Children are shaped by their circumstances. For children, positive experiences, joyful moments, and the kindness of those around them develops their self-worth and expands their horizons. These influences nurture children into adults who promote peace and prosperity in their own lives and in the lives of others. #NationalChildrensDay #SchoolSports

Our wellbeing is connected to the wellbeing of others.  1 in 4 people will face mental health challenges in their lifetime. This reminds us to respond with empathy, validate each other’s experiences, and foster supportive environments where we can connect deeply. Rising cases of mental distress must be met with a collective commitment to compassion. We all have a role to play in empowering individuals to understand that their feelings and behaviours can be understood and healed through meaningful interventions.

Regardless of gender or economic background, everyone has the potential for math and science skills.    To foster innovation and leadership in the knowledge and tech economy, we must nurture STEM capabilities. Especially for girls, as well as for boys and girls from low-income households, enhancing their inclusion in these fields ensures that our technological advancements simultaneously address inequalities and improve access for all #GirlsInSTEM

We’re broadcasting to more than 3,000 learners from Letsibogo Girls High School in Soweto. Our mission with Girls in STEM is to emphasise that whether you’re a girl or a boy, your dreams are valid and can come true. In partnership with Microsoft, we are encouraging learners to envision their dream jobs and identify the education and skills that will empower them to make a positive impact on others #GirlsInSTEM

Technology is reshaping our lives, but there’s a crucial challenge that we must confront: Only 13% of STEM students in South Africa are women. Alongside the most educated generation of African youth, and through our Girls in STEM initiative, we are on a mission to empower more girls to bring their unique voices and perspectives to the innovation driving transformative change.

Global Citizen is on a mission to #EndPovertyNOW and we are their partners championing this mission in Africa.   Five years ago, the Mandela 100 anniversary impacted 122 million people and distributed $7.4bn in funding to frontline organisations. By supporting this necessary global cooperation, we raise awareness and promote the adoption of policies that address the needs of vulnerable populations. #GlobalCitizenFestival

Throwback Thursday: Mostepe Foundation- Youth for Tech Expo 2024 at the Sandton Convention Centre Here’s my takeaway: The expo exposed to us how crucial IT is in today's rapidly evolving job market, especially with the increasing development and integration of AI tools. Here are some reasons why: 1. Awareness and exploration: The expo provided a platform for young people to discover various IT career paths, learn about new technologies, and explore opportunities they may not have considered before. 2. Skills development and training: By interacting with industry professionals and learning about the latest technologies, we can now identify skills we need to develop to remain competitive in the job market. 3. Networking opportunities: The expo offered a chance to connect with professionals, thought leaders, and peers, potentially leading to mentorship, internships, or job opportunities. 4. Adaptation to AI-driven careers: As AI transforms the job market, the expo helped us to understand how to work alongside AI tools, develop complementary skills, and thrive in an automated workforce. 5. Inspiration and motivation: Interacting with successful professionals and learning about innovative technologies really inspired and motivated us to pursue careers in IT or to gain necessary skills which can be integrated with our current career choices. 6.Industry insight: The expo provided valuable insights into industry trends, challenges, and requirements, helping us make informed decisions about our career paths. A reminder to the youth: attending career expos gives you an opportunity to gain a competitive edge, develop essential skills, and stay ahead in a rapidly evolving job market. #Youthfortech #motsepefoundation

CA (SA) || Servant Leadership || Financial Management || Risk Analysis || Business Continuity

Women's Month has been jam packed with celebrations, conversations and moments to honour incredible women. I had the honour of attending the Shining Light Awards, held by the Motsepe Foundation and it was nothing short of amazing! It was inspiring to see the incredible work being done by women in our economy, from sports to agriculture to media. The conversations were enriching and thought provoking. I got to meet inspirational women, like our newly crowned Miss South Africa 2024, Mia Le Roux. Having Ms Sophia Williams-De Bruyn, an icon and living legend, to close the day was more than just a cherry on top🤌🏽🙌🏽 My favorite conversation today was by Lebo Monyatsi (Head of Financial Inclusion - Sanlam), where she eloquently unpacked the statistics that highlight the extent of Financial Exclusion in women in South Africa. To a great extent, our cultural behaviour has significantly influenced our economic challenges and remains one of the biggest bottlenecks to financial freedom. This is also backed by a lack of education and access to information to guide us to make sound financial decisions. Financial literacy can often be understood as a "privileged" conversation. We have a big responsibility as educated leaders to change this status quo to teach and empower our communities, making financial literacy and wellness a prioritized conversation. With information sharing and understanding at the forefront, we can create the opportunity for more women to participate in the economy and ultimately work towards closing the gap. #financialwellness #womensmonth #shininglightawards #bethechangeyouwanttosee #liftasyourise
