At ninety9cents, we recently had the exciting opportunity to collaborate with client Bronwyn Pretorius CM(SA) and the team at Ackermans on their new Baby campaign. The challenge was to create a captivating and humorous commercial where babies deliver specific lines—a feat impossible with live-action alone. Instead of opting for a a CG model, which would have been cost-prohibitive, we leveraged a generative AI-driven approach combined with traditional compositing and rotoscoping techniques. How We Did It: Reference Capture: We used a reference capture of our actor as the data feed for our AI tool. This allowed us to create a realistic and engaging visual experience. AI Integration: The AI tool generated animated facial expressions that were seamlessly integrated over the original footage using rotoscoping and compositing techniques. Key Considerations: Control vs. Flexibility: While the AI approach offered a faster turnaround and lower costs, it does at present, come with some creative limitations compared to a fully CG model. Cost & Turnaround: This method allowed us to deliver high-quality results quickly and efficiently, making it an ideal choice for projects with tight deadlines. The Result: Our innovative use of AI brought Ackermans' vision to life, creating a heartwarming and humorous commercial that resonates with our audiences. This campaign showcases the potential of AI in creative storytelling. We're super proud of the result and to have been part of this project.
