About us
RSR was established in terms of the National Railway Safety Regulator Act, No 16 of 2002 (“the Act”) as amended, to establish a national regulatory framework for South Africa and to monitor and enforce compliance in the rail sector. The primary legislative mandate of the RSR is to oversee and enforce safety performance by all railway operators in South Africa, including those of neighbouring States whose rail operations enter South Africa.

Updates
-
The report highlights a significant rise in operational occurrences, particularly in KwaZulu-Natal. With railways often built through densely populated areas and used as crossing points, collisions with objects and pedestrians pose a significant risk. It’s crucial to prioritise safety measures to protect both railway operators and the public.
