[Media Statement] Transnet will move with speed to ensure Part B of the review process into the Durban Container Terminal Pier 2 matter proceeds without undue delay. Transnet will soon approach the Court to secure a preferent date for the hearing of the review application. Transnet will abide by the interim interdict granted by the Court and remains committed to finding a speedy resolution to this matter, in the interests of the company and the South African economy. Speaking alongside other energy experts at the AOW: Investing in African Energy Conference yesterday, Transnet National Ports Authority General Manager: Special Projects, Luvuyo Mkontwana highlighted the Ports Authority's critical role in preparing South Africa for the just energy transition. During a panel discussion, Luvuyo articulated efforts to accelerate the development of a Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) import terminal at the Port of Richards Bay, highlighting that signing the Terminal Operator Agreement with the preferred bidder in the coming weeks is significant in realising the terminal’s operationalisation by 2027. TNPA in collaboration with industry partners will approach the market for a pre-feasibility study for a similar project at the Port of Ngqura. The TNPA LNG projects are in line with the Department of Minerals Resources and Energy’s plans to deliver 6 000 MW of Gas-to-Power in South Africa, with 3 000 MW allocated as per the Integrated Resource Plan and 3 000 MW for Eskom's new generation in Richards Bay. The implementation of these projects will advance the development of the gas market as an alternative energy source to address the security of supply.

Transnet National Ports Authority's (TNPA) General Manager of Special Projects, Luvuyo Mkontwana will be taking the platform alongside other global energy experts at this year’s AOW: Investing in African Energy Conference, taking place from 07 – 10 October 2024 at the Cape Town International Convention Centre.
